ITZY's Guess Who drops TODAY and plays out as a well staged coursebook on love & romance - PINKVILLA

ITZY members dropped their mini-album, Guess Who today with the accompanying music video of the title track, Mafia In The Morning.

ITZY dropped their mini-album Guess Who today with 6 unique and diverse tracks - Mafia In The Morning (title track), Sorry Not Sorry, Kidding Me, Wild Wild West, Shoot and Tennis (00:00) as part of its official discography. The entire tracklist plays out like a well-staged and executed coursebook on love and romance.

The title song and first on the tracklist, Mafia In The Morning compares love to a Mafia! A Mafia is an imposter who deceives you, and the track plays out like a challenge to a potential lover saying, "I will make my moves on you, so stop me if you can." The track is fun, teasing and sassy and so perfectly in sync with ITZY's sound and image. I thoroughly enjoyed the track for its 'K-pop noir' like visuals and 'charismatic femme fatale' vibe. Mafia In the Morning is composed by LYRE, J.Y Park, earattack, and KASS, and the lyrics are written by J.Y Park, KASS, danke, and LYRE.

The second track on the list is Sorry Not Sorry, which opens with a cool guitar strum. Lyrically, the song speaks about how one should not be apologetic about themselves and just keep soaring higher. It was also refreshing to see the girls acknowledge their success when they sing about how there is no limit to ITZY, metaphorising their group name to be limitless. The girls are unapologetic and proud of their success and encourage their listeners to feel the same too.

The third track on the list is Kidding Me. The song plays on the concept of urgency, saying there is no time to waste, so hurry up and get moving. Ryujin's powerful rap blends smoothly with Lia's vocals as much as Yeji and Chaeryeong's dual dabble. Yuna's voice is like the perfect cherry on the cake to complete the song.

The fourth track on the list is Wild Wild West. Like the name, it begins with a smooth instrumental part and instantly gives you a feel of 1920s America, Cowboys and outlaws. The girls describe themselves as 'Cacti' thorny and picky on the outside but soft on the inside, asking potential lovers to stay away. They wonder what did they see in them after all, they are unlike other girls. This is sonically the best b-side track on the album.

The fifth track on the list is Shoot. It is one of the songs, you listen to while killing time at a signal. Lyrically, it is the weakest in the album, but the vocals and the beat make up for that! A nice slow-brew track, it is certainly enjoyable.

The final track on the list is Tennis (00:00). ITZY members love their metaphors and have compared different stages of love to an inanimate object - from a mafia, to cacti and finally, a game of tennis. The song makes references to a game of tennis. Once you are done with the initial chase and your heart finally leans into the direction of your potential lover, it becomes a game of tennis. Separated by a net our gaze back and forth like Tiki-Taka, Matchpoint! In the end, despite our best serve, we might be 00:00! Lyrically the strongest track on the album.

Bop Shop: Songs From Billie Eilish, Ella Jay Basco And Ruby Ibarra, And More - MTV.com

Morgin DuPont makes a declaration at the start of her new non-binary anthem: “I’m not a man / I’m not a woman / I’m a force, liberty pass that torch.” It’s a powerful phrase that kicks off the Puerto Rican trans artist’s braggadocious bop, laying the groundwork for the confident demands she makes throughout the track, spitting out diamonds like, “You’re boring / Explore me, bitch.” She’s got the attitude to back up her boldness and bars, and the song’s themes of self-love, confidence, and unapologetic queerness run throughout her debut EP Pearls out today. It’s about damn time queer music gave the gender non-conforming community a shout, and Morgin is blessing everyone with not just a bop, but an exciting new voice to look out for, too. —Carson Mlnarik

ITZY is back with a bang! The supremely talented and stunning quintet has made a thunderous comeback with their new album, Guess Who and its accompanying title track, Mafia In The Morning, which is co-produced, written and composed by JYP Entertainment's founder J.Y Park himself! Other tracks include Sorry Not Sorry, Kidding Me, Tennis, Shoot and Wild Wild West.

Mafia In The Morning is a slick, stylish and smooth music video akin to a game of Mafia. 'High-fashion', 'sleek dance moves' and 'eclectic mix of sounds' are the three components that make for a 'K-pop Noir' and ITZY nails it to the tee. Mafia In the Morning is composed by LYRE, J.Y Park, earattack, and KASS, and the lyrics are written by J.Y Park, KASS, danke, and LYRE. The song plays out like a challenge to a potential lover as if to say, "I will steal your heart, stop me if you can". The music video is catchy, oozing with charm and confidence. The girls play their parts of a femme fatale beautifully.

ITZY Breaks Own Record For Stock Pre-Orders With “GUESS WHO” - soompi

ITZY has already set a new personal record with their upcoming mini album—even before its release!

As of April 28, ITZY’s new mini album “GUESS WHO” had surpassed 260,000 stock pre-orders, achieving the group’s highest number of stock pre-orders for an album to date. ITZY’s previous mini album, “Not Shy,” recorded 200,000 stock pre-orders ahead of its release last summer.

The number of stock pre-orders is the amount of album stock that is produced prior to an album’s release. This number is the estimated demand calculated using various factors, including how many albums were pre-ordered by fans.

One hour ahead of the release of “GUESS WHO” on April 30 at 1 p.m. KST, ITZY will be premiering their new title track during a free online showcase for their fans at 12 p.m. KST. (You can watch the showcase on ITZY’s official YouTube channel here.)

Three Hong Kong bars make it on Asia's 50 Best Bars inaugural 51 to 100 list - Time Out

Asia’s 50 Best Bars’ inaugural 51 to 100 list was revealed today, and it included bars from 22 cities across 12 countries in Asia. Japan leads the list with the most number of bars featuring 14 venues across different cities. Both Singapore and Thailand made the list with six bars each, and South Korea and China contributed five venues on the extended list.

Hong Kong sees Peel Street’s The Shady Acres appearing for the first time on Asia’s 50 Best Bars at 68th on the list. After the departure of industry veteran Agung Prabowo from Asia’s 50 Best Bars mainstay The Old Man Hong Kong (number 1 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019, and number 2 in 2020), the bar dropped to number 54, which could mean that his new venture Penicillin, which recently got the 2021 Best Sustainable Bar Award, may get a stake at the top 50 list. Italian restaurant 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana (ranked 28th in 2020) also dropped off the main list to 65, following the departure of bar manager Devender Sehgal who is now managing the bar at Japanese izakaya, The Aubrey

For the first time on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list, emerging hotspot Sri Lanka also made it with two bars: Botanik Rooftop Bistro & Bar in Colombo at 73rd and Smoke & Bitters in Hiriketiya at 91st. Vietnam, which is also appearing for the first time on the list, nabs three spots with Ne Cocktail Bar in Hanoi at 76th, Summer Experiment in Ho Chi Minh at 77th, and Hybrid in Nha Trang at 96th. Other notable entries came from the Philippines – led by The Back Room at number 51, Oto at number 61, and Buccaneers Rum & Cocktails at number 100 – and two new entries from Indonesia – Wishbone from Semarang at number 74 and A/A Bar at 83.

“The last year has been devastating for hospitality and it is vital that we support as many businesses as possible at part of their recovery,” shares Asia’s 50 Best Bars content editor Mark Sansom. “In a historic first for the Asia’s 50 Best Bars awards programme, the extended ranking is designed to shine the spotlight on more bars than ever before. As guests begin planning their next bar experiences, this extended list will provide double the choice of exceptional, expert-approved drinking destinations for the months and years ahead,” he adds.

Asia’s 50 Best Bars will announce the official 50 list in a virtual ceremony on May 6, 6pm HKT. Catch the digital countdown via The World’s 50 Best Bars Facebook page and 50 Best Bars TV YouTube channel.

Billie Eilish Sings to a Literal Snake in New Music Video - Vulture

Billie Eilish’s upcoming sophomore album may be called Happier Than Ever, but don’t let that title fool you — Gen-Z’s dark-pop icon can still make a brooding, emotional song. “Your Power,” Eilish’s first single since announcing the album, is a sparse acoustic number that takes someone to task for their own abuses of power. “And you swear you didn’t know,” Eilish sings in the second verse. “You said you thought she was your age / How dare you?” That builds to a biting indictment: “Will you only feel bad if it turns out that they kill your contract?” That’s all to say nothing of the video, which finds Eilish on a picturesque mountainside, slowly being constricted by a literal snake. Make of that metaphor what you will, but on Instagram, Eilish wrote, “i feel very vulnerable putting this one out because i hold it so close to my heart. this is about many different situations that we’ve all either witnessed or experienced. i hope this can inspire change.”

“Your Power” follows singles “Therefore I Am” and “my future,” both of which will also be included on Happier Than Ever come July 30. As Eilish teased the new album, she also posted a clip of another song, seemingly the title track, which struck the same intimate chords as “Your Power.” News of the album follows her February Apple TV+ documentary The World’s a Little Blurry, along with her Record of the Year Grammy win in March for “everything i wanted” — a song that won’t make the cut for Happier Than Ever, even if it did make her a rare two-time consecutive winner in the category.

Billie Eilish Shares "Very Vulnerable" Message Behind Her New Song "Your Power" - E! Online

Billie Eilish just shared the inspiration behind her haunting new song "Your Power."

The track, which dropped on Thursday, April 29 with a music video that features a platinum blonde Billie sitting on a cliff with a snake slowly wrapping itself around her body, was one of the Grammy-winning artist's "favorite" to write, Billie wrote in an Instagram post.

"'Your Power' song and video out now," Billie began. "This is one of my favorite songs i've ever written. i feel very vulnerable putting this one out because i hold it so close to my heart. this is about many different situations that we've all either witnessed or experienced. i hope this can inspire change. try not to abuse your power."

Billie alternates between first and third person in the new song's lyrics. In one verse, she sings, "She said you were a hero / You played the part / But you ruined her in a year / Don't act like it was hard." A following verse reads, "I thought that I was special / You make me feel like it was my fault you are the devil."

Only 3 Hong Kong Bars Made The Inaugural 51-100 List By Asia's 50 Best Bars 2021 - Tatler Hong Kong

Closely following the new format of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2021 and just one week ahead of this year's virtual awards ceremony on May 6, Asia's 50 Best Bars has unveiled for the first time an expanded ranking of bars across the region spanning 51st to 100th place. This change reflects the awards organiser's more inclusive approach in light of the pandemic that devastated the F&B industry globally.

Despite this, Hong Kong has produced a modest showing on the 51-100 list, with only three homegrown bars making the cut compared to Singapore's six, and Tokyo's ten. Among them, The Old Man—a traditional favourite that ranked #2 in 2020 and #1 in 2019—fell a drastic 52 places this year, following the passing of the helm from co-founders Agung Prabowo and Roman Ghale to Nikita Matveev late last year. Similarly, Otto e Mezzo Bombana fell from #28 in last year's ranking to #65 this year, as head mixologist Devender Sehgal moved to lead The Aubrey's bar programme. Meanwhile, Peel Street watering hole Shady Acres, popular for its approachable wine list and tongue-in-cheek cocktails, will certainly be celebrating their debut at #68.

Whether this bodes well for Hong Kong's showing in the top 50 remains to be seen, though we believe Penicillin will make an appearance, having already been named as the winner of the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award.

Stay tuned for the announcement of Asia's 50 Best Bars, which will be streamed on May 6 (6pm) via The World's 50 Best Bars Facebook page and the 50 Best Bars TV YouTube channel.

Asia's 50 Best Bars Reveals, For The First-time Ever, Bars Ranked Between 51st And 100th In The List - PRNewswire

The full ranking of Asia's 50 Best Bars 51-100 list 2021 is included at the end of this press release.

With one week to go before the announcement of Asia's 50 Best Bars 2021, sponsored by Perrier, 50 Best has revealed the bars voted onto the extended list for the first time. The ranking is created from the overall Asia's 50 Best Bars voting process and comes as part of 50 Best's overall strategy to recognise a greater number of hospitality establishments as they seek to emerge from restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

Mark Sansom, Content Editor for Asia's 50 Best Bars, says: "The last year has been devastating for hospitality and it is vital that we support as many businesses as possible at part of their recovery. In a historic first for the Asia's 50 Best Bars awards programme, the extended ranking is designed to shine the spotlight on more bars than ever before. As guests begin planning their next bar experiences, this extended list will provide double the choice of exceptional, expert-approved drinking destinations for the months and years ahead."

Japan dominates the 51-100 list with 14 bars featured. New entry Ishinohana in Tokyo places ahead of the pack at No.56, while the other nine bars from Tokyo on the list this year include Bar Landscape at No.57, Mixology Heritage at No.60, The Bellwood at No.69, Bar Orchard Ginza at No.72, Liquid Factory at No.84, Mixology Salon at No.87, Tender at No.88, Memento Mori at No.98, and Gen Yamamoto at No.99. Singapore's bars secure six spots on the list including three newcomers – Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall at No.71, Live Twice at No.75 and Junior The Pocket Bar at No.82. Gibson by the Jigger & Pony Group is at No.66, Employees Only at No.70 and The Other Room at No.79.

Thailand is represented by six bars including four new entries for Bangkok – Niks Anuman's Asia Today at No.52, Thaipioka at No.53, 008 Bar at No.81 and Sugar Ray You've Just Been Poisoned at No.85. Rabbit Hole ranks at No.67 and Smalls comes in at No.93.

China boasts five entries on the extended list: Shanghai's Epic is a new entry at No.64 and is named the Campari One To Watch. The Old Man Hong Kong is at No.54, 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana and Shady Acres, both from Hong Kong, place at No.65 and No.68 respectively, while Macau's Goa Nights rounds off at No.100.

South Korea makes a strong showing with Seoul's Pussyfoot Saloon leading the pack at No.63. Mixology Bar (No.86), Soko (No.89), Southside Parlor (No.92) and Pine & Co (No.97) are featured by Asia's 50 Best for the first time.

Sri Lanka and Vietnam each make their first appearance on the list this year, with two bars from the former: Botanik Rooftop Bistro & Bar in Colombo at No.73 and Smoke & Bitters in Hiriketiya at No.91. Vietnam grabs three entries: Ne Cocktail Bar in Hanoi at No.76, Summer Experiment in Ho Chi Minh at No.77, and Hybrid in Nha Trang at No.96.

Manila leads the way in the Philippines, led by The Back Room at No.51, Oto at No.61, and Buccaneers Rum & Cocktails at No.100. Two new bars from Indonesia break into the ranking – Wishbone from Semarang is placed No.74, while A/A Bar from Jakarta earns the No.83 spot. Other notable entries include New Delhi's Hoots' at No.59, Kuala Lumpur's Pahit at No.78, and Taipei's Mu at No.90. Mu is helmed by Bannie Kang, the winner of this year's Mancino Bartenders' Bartender Award.

The sixth edition of Asia's 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, will be announced in a virtual ceremony on 6th May, beginning at 6pm HK/Singapore time (3.30pm India; 5pm Thailand; 7pm Japan). Chrissy Teigen's Twitter Joke About Lori Loughlin's College Scandal Has Me Literally LOL'ing - BuzzFeed

In a recent tweet, Teigen mentioned that she never took her SAT while expressing a desire to attend hospitality school.

"How do you get into school?" she asked, before taking a gentle-ish dig at Lori Loughlin's college admissions scandal: "Do I have to [have] Laurie Laughlin photoshop myself being hospitable".

I wanna go to hospitality school. I am old and didn’t take my SATs. How does this work now? How do you get into school? Do I have to Laurie Laughlin photoshop myself being hospitable

@chrissyteigen / Via Twitter: @chrissyteigen

Along with husband Mossimo Giannulli, Loughlin was charged with and eventually pled guilty to paying half a million dollars in bribes to get her two daughters admitted into USC.

Before you say anything — Chrissy knows she spelled "Lori" wrong, too.

@chrissyteigen / Via Twitter: @chrissyteigen

Will Lori see Chrissy's joke? It's possible! She is, after all, out of jail since being released at the end of last year.

One thing's for sure: Moments like these are why we're happy Chrissy came back to Twitter.

7 local and regional celebrities and their brush with law - Yahoo News

No one is perfect, and your favourite celebrities, contrary to what you might think, are included. Some of these convicted celebrities fall from grace but were able to rebound back into everyone’s lives; while some have disappeared from the scene for good. Yahoo Lifestyle SEA rounds up a list of seven local and regional celebrities and their brush with the law in recent years.

Singaporean actor Shane Pow. (PHOTOS: Facebook / Shane Pow, Wan Ting Koh)

1) Shane Pow

Recently charged for drink drinking, this is Singapore actor Shane Pow’s second brush with the law for the same offence. Pow committed the alleged offence on 17 September 2020, after breaching COVID-19 safe management measures in October 2020. If convicted, Pow faces a mandatory jail term of up to two years and a fine of between S$5,000 and S$20,000, along with a driving ban of at least five years.

Blindsided by his offence, Mediacorp had parted ways with the C.L.I.F 5 star, stating that they were not notified by Pow “prior to it being reported in the media on 22 April 2021.”

2) Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim

In 2017, Malaysian actor Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim was sentenced to 11 years in prison for trying to smuggle drugs into the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The then-38-year-old had attempted to smuggle 4.5grams of crystal methamphetamine hidden in his rectum and was caught at the Kualanamu International Airport.

Known to his fans as Benjy, the actor starred in films and dramas such as Gangsterock Kasi Sengat, What If, and Kerana Cintaku Saerah.

3) Mark Anthony Fernandez

After Philippines’ President Rodrigo Duterte launched his war against drugs, several Filipino celebrities, including popular actor Mark Anthony Fernandez, were arrested for alleged illegal drugs. Son of actor Rudy Fernandez and actress-politician Alma Moreno, Fernandez was arrested in October 2016 after the Angeles City Police found illegal drugs inside his vehicle.

However, after a year of being jailed, he was released when the courts dismissed his case. Fernandez had admitted to being a marijuana user but denied that the kilo of marijuana in his vehicle was his, saying that it was placed by someone else in his car.

4) CJ Ramos

Former Filipino child actor CJ Ramos was another celebrity that was arrested after President Duterte’s war on drugs. In 2018, Ramos was caught in the act of buying illegal drugs in Caloocan City, Philippines, and admitted to using illegal drugs due to “personal problems.” The actor admitted to using drugs for the past ten years.

First starred in Okay ka, Fairy Ko in 1987, Ramos made his acting comeback via FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano shortly after his release and has been on the show ever since.

5) Ashley Rita

Former Miss Universe Singapore 2017 contestant Ashley Rita Wong Kai Lin was convicted and jailed for six weeks in February 2021 for using her friends’ debit cards to make unauthorised purchases after memorising them. The 27-year-old e-gaming commentator had pleaded guilty to the four charges under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act, with another 27 charges taken into consideration.

Wong had memorised two of her friends’ debit card details in 2016 and used their cards to make unauthorised purchases online. She had used one victim’s debit card illegally more than 20 times between August and September 2016 to buy various items.

6) Neelofa

Malaysian celebrity Neelofa and family were fined a total of RM60,000 for violating the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOP). The breaches were committed during her recent wedding ceremony, including regulations on interstate travel. With her husband, the couple had travelled to Langkawi for a work trip that many said was a disguise for their honeymoon.

The RM60,000 fine includes members of the couple’s family, who were issued fines of RM1,500 each, totalling RM30,000. They had been convicted for failing to observe physical distancing during the couple’s marriage solemnisation ceremony in March 2021. Seemingly unaffected by the fines, Neelofa continues to share photos of videos of her at work despite the controversy.

7) Terence Cao

Local actor Terence Cao is in trouble with the law as he allowed 12 individuals, including Shane Pow, Jeffery Xu, Sonia Chew, and Jeremy Chan, to enter his house for a birthday celebration last year.

Held between 2 and 3 October 2020, Cao hosted the celebrities, seen in a photo uploaded onto social media, when the regulations then prohibited more than five visitors in a household at any one time.

The guests at the gathering were fined S$300 each, and Cao’s hearing for him to plead guilty has been fixed for 25 May. If convicted of flouting COVID-19 regulations, Cao could face a jail term of up to six months and a maximum fine of S$10,000.

The 40th UOB Painting of the Year competition calls for artists to push the limits of their imagination and ingenuity - Yahoo Finance

Bank to hold special commemorative exhibition featuring winning artworks from the last four decades

SINGAPORE, April 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- UOB is calling for artists in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand to push the limits of their imagination and ingenuity through the 40th UOB Painting of the Year (POY) competition. This year, Singapore's longest-running annual art competition and one of Southeast Asia's most prestigious art awards invites artists to create artworks that showcase their creativity and mastery.

Mr Wee Ee Cheong, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, UOB, said, "Art has the power to transcend culture, geography and time in lifting the human spirit and unifying minds. This has been most evident during the pandemic. Many around the world who have had to withdraw into their homes, have turned to art as a compelling means of expression, for comfort and to identify with others.

"Over the last four decades of the UOB POY competition, our POY artists have opened eyes and minds to new worlds and encouraged conversations and connections. Their imagination and creativity have helped broaden our world views and fostered a deeper appreciation of other cultures and perspectives. Just as UOB has been supporting the responsible growth of ASEAN's businesses over the decades, we remain committed to nurturing the next generation of artists as they continue to push the boundaries of creative expression."

The UOB POY competition has helped to uncover more than 1,000 artists across the region over the last four decades. Many have gone on to define Southeast Asian art including Mr Goh Beng Kwan, Mr Anthony Poon and Mr Chua Ek Kay, who were also recipients of the Singapore Cultural Medallion. The country winner of the 2010 UOB POY (Thailand), Ms Pannaphan Yodmanee, has also gone on to win the distinguished Benesse Prize[1], the official award of the Singapore Biennale, in 2016.

Mr Goh Beng Kwan said, "Winning the UOB Painting of the Year was one of the most important, life changing moments in my career as an artist. As a result of it, I was invited to participate in many local and overseas exhibitions. This gave me the opportunity to develop further as an artist, as well as interact and learn from other Southeast Asian artists. It also led to my artworks gaining tremendous recognition. Winning the award was what encouraged me to be a full-time artist."

Call for 40th UOB POY competition entries

As with last year, submissions will be received digitally. UOB POY submissions will be open from 29 April 2021 until 31 July 2021. The competition is for citizens and permanent residents across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The winners, which include the regional winner of the coveted UOB Southeast Asian POY award for the country winner with the most outstanding work, will be announced at an awards ceremony in November 2021. More competition details can be found at www.UOBandArt.com.

To mark the 40th UOB POY, this year, instead of one country winner, all four country winners will be able to participate in an art residency programme either in Shanghai, China or Fukuoka, Japan. The month-long exchange programme will enable artists to immerse themselves in the art culture of the host country and learn about various approaches to art creation.

Forty years of UOB POY alumni unite in special exhibition

To celebrate the UOB POY 40-year milestone, UOB will host a special commemorative exhibition in the third-quarter of this year. The exhibition will feature 45 winning works, comprising 39 pieces from UOB POY (Singapore) winners and six artworks from UOB Southeast Asian POY winners. Attendees will experience how Southeast Asian art has changed over the years and at the hands of the competition's art luminaries.

The commemorative exhibition will also hold virtual tours on www.UOBandArt.com. With close to nine in 10 of Singaporeans using online channels as a means to engage with the arts during the COVID-19 pandemic last year[2], UOB expects the exhibition will draw many into the world of Southeast Asian art.

Launch of Impression+ solo exhibition by Zhang Chunlei

As part of UOB's continued support for past UOB POY winners, Mr Zhang Chunlei, winner of the 2020 UOB POY (Singapore), Established Artist Category will showcase his latest body of work at the UOB Art Gallery.

His solo exhibition, Impression+, demonstrates his unique painting technique which involves creating a series of tightly-woven lines and planes as well as portraying famous characters, popular culture icons and landmarks from East and West. A total of 16 works will be featured at the UOB Art Gallery as well as www.UOBandArt.com till 15 June 2021.

[1] The Benesse Prize was established in 1995 by Benesse Corporation and it was first awarded at the Venice Biennale in the same year. It was created to recognise the artistic endeavours of outstanding artists and support those who embody the corporate philosophy of the Benesse Group, which is "Well-Being." Since 2016, the Benesse Prize has been the official award of the Singapore Biennale, presented in collaboration with the Singapore Art Museum.

About UOB and Art

UOB's involvement in art started in the 1970s with its collection of paintings by Singapore artists. Today, the UOB Art Collection has more than 2,500 artworks, made up primarily of paintings from established and emerging Southeast Asian artists.

UOB plays an active role in communities across the region, most notably through its long-term commitment to art. As part of this, the Bank has led a wide range of visual arts programmes, partnerships and outreach initiatives across the region.

The Bank's flagship art programme is the UOB POY Competition, which was started in 1982 to recognise Southeast Asia's artists and to offer them the opportunity to showcase their works to the wider community. The competition was extended to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The competition has cultivated and advanced the careers of many artists in Singapore. Notable among them are Mr Goh Beng Kwan (1982 winner), and the late Mr Anthony Poon (1983 winner) and Mr Chua Ek Kay (1991 winner), who received the Singapore Cultural Medallion, Singapore's most distinguished art award.

The competition has also recognised talents from across the region through the UOB Southeast Asian POY award. Previous winners include Mr Prabu Perdana from Indonesia in 2020, Mr Anagard from Indonesia in 2019, Mr Suvi Wahyudianto from Indonesia in 2018, Mr Sukit Choosri from Thailand in 2017, Mr Gatot Indrajati from Indonesia in 2016, Mr Anggar Prasetyo from Indonesia in 2015, Mr Antonius Subiyanto from Indonesia in 2014 and Ms Stefanie Hauger from Singapore in 2013.

Together with past UOB POY winners, UOB also runs art workshops for underprivileged and special needs children regularly. At these workshops, the young learn art techniques from art professionals and award-winning artists.

In recognition of the Bank's long-term commitment to art, UOB was presented with the National Arts Council's Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award for the 16th consecutive year in 2020.
