Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae to boycott Golden Globes 2022 - The Indian Express

Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae will not attend the Golden Globes 2022, despite being nominated for the awards. The actor, who starred in the dystopian drama, has been nominated for Best Performance By An Actor in a television series. Squid Game was also nominated for Best Television Series – Drama and O Yeong Su was nominated for Best Supporting Actor – Television.

On January 5, Lee Jung Jae’s management company, Artist Company, released a statement that read, “He is immensely grateful to have been nominated in the Best Actor category at the Golden Globes, but he has decided not to attend the ceremony. He recognizes that Netflix is not participating in the Golden Globes, as has been widely reported around the world. He also made the decision considering other factors like the COVID-19 situation and the quarantine requirements.”

While the Golden Globes is precursor to the Academy Awards, it came under fire for allegations of corruption and lack of diversity among the members of the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association). As a result, Hollywood called for a boycott of the award ceremony, and studios like Netflix, Warner Media and Amazon declared that they will not participate in the ceremony, till HFPA has new reforms in place. NBC, which had been broadcasting for the show for years, also called off its commitment to airing the show.

Lee Jung Jae had planned to attend the Critics Choice Awards, but had to cancel his US schedule, owing to the COVID-19 situation.

By PTI

NEW DELHI: South Korean actor Kim Mi-soo, who featured in a supporting role in the currently on air K-drama "Snowdrop", passed away on Wednesday. She was 31.

Her agency Landscape Entertainment confirmed the news of the actor's "sudden" death in a statement to Korean media outlet Star News. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

"Actress Kim Mi Soo suddenly passed away on January 5. The bereaved family is currently very heartbroken due to the sudden sad news," Kim's agency said.

The agency also urged people to refrain from spreading rumours around the actor's death.

"We sincerely ask that you refrain from spreading rumors or speculative reports so that the bereaved family, who is in shock and full of sorrow, can remember the deceased," the statement read.

In "Snowdrop", Kim played the role of Yeo Jung-min, one of the roommates of the series lead essayed by girl group Blackpink member Jisoo. The late actor also starred in 2021's hit K-dramas like Netflix series "Hellbound" and "Yumi's Cells" (Viki).

Kim's funeral will be held quietly behind closed doors according to the wishes of her family, the agency further said. "Please pray for her, and we send our deepest condolences once again to the deceased," Landscape Entertainment concluded the statement.

"Snowdrop" is currently embroiled in a controversy at home as several Korean netizens have accused the drama of distorting the pro-democracy movement of the 1980s in South Korea and glorifying the notorious Agency for National Security Planning.

JTBC, the TV channel on which the show airs in South Korea, has repeatedly denied the claims, before announcing days ago that it will take legal action against individuals spreading "falsehoods" regarding the series.

Also starring "Something in the Rain" star Jung Hae-in the lead role, "Snowdrop" is available for streaming on Disney Plus in selected regions.

SEVENTEEN's Woozi Talks About His 1st Solo Mixtape “Ruby” And Writing All-English Lyrics - soompi

As he prepares for the release of his first-ever solo mixtape, SEVENTEEN’s Woozi reflected on the experience of producing it and what fans can look forward to!

On January 3 at 6 p.m. KST, Woozi will be dropping his first solo mixtape “Ruby” through various online platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.

“I feel like I grew and moved one step up as a musician while creating this song, which makes me very proud,” said Woozi, “and I think it will be a special gift for CARATs [SEVENTEEN’s fan club], so I’m very satisfied.”

Describing the rock-inspired song “Ruby,” which will feature all-English lyrics, Woozi remarked, “It’s a powerful song with a wide variety of charms. It’s a song that has the magnetic pull of the moment when you lay your eyes on a beautiful jewel and are instantly captivated.”

As for what fans should pay special attention to while listening to the song, he added, “I tried to create music that only the singer Woozi could create. I think it’d be good for people to focus on Woozi’s vocals, which move freely within a colorful array of variations.”

Woozi also explained that while “Ruby” will highlight a new side of him that fans may not have seen before, he has still stayed completely true to himself.

“Although it’s a total transformation on my part, I wanted to show that this new side of me is also completely me,” he shared.

When asked what was most memorable about working on “Ruby,” Woozi replied, “It was my first time writing lyrics entirely in English. There were some difficulties, but I think the lyrics turned out great because I received a lot of help from those around me.”

As for how he would sum up his mixtape in one phrase, Woozi said simply, “Me.” He went on to address his fans directly, saying, “Please listen to ‘Ruby’ a lot. Woozi loves you all.”

“Ruby” will be released online on January 3 at 6 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out Woozi’s teasers for the mixtape here!

SEVENTEEN’s Woozi drops stunning music video for first solo song ‘Ruby’ - NME

Woozi of K-pop boyband SEVENTEEN has released the music video for his first-ever solo single, ‘Ruby’.

In the captivating clip, the singer-songwriter performs the funk-inspired English pop rock track on a flashing stage as a troupe of models walk circles around him. The video ends with Woozi performing a dramatic guitar solo while red lights shine on his bejewelled guitar strap.

“Baby girl you’re making me a beautiful jewel / Every time I look at you I keep turning red / I’m not going back, go colour me like you / My forbidden fruit / She got the ruby lips,” Woozi sings on the chorus. ‘Ruby’ was written, composed and arranged by the SEVENTEEN member, alongside frequent collaborators Bumzu and Park Ki-tae.

The release of ‘Ruby’ is expected to be accompanied by the next instalment of SEVENTEEN’s ‘The Thirteen Tapes’ interview and photo book series. The series had been launched in early 2021 when member Hoshi unveiled his first solo mixtape ‘Spider’.

At the time, Pledis Entertainment said that the series will “[commemorate] the releases of the SEVENTEEN members’ mixtapes”. Pledis had also added that “A new volume of [‘The Thirteen Tapes’] will be published each time a member releases their mixtape”, hinting at possible solo releases for all thirteen members of the group.

‘Ruby’ is the latest solo release from the various members of SEVENTEEN. Prior to the Christmas weekend, SEVENTEEN’s main vocalist DK surprised fans with a new solo holiday song called ‘You’re My Christmas’. Earlier this year, there were also releases by Vernon with ‘Bands Boy’ in November, and Jeonghan with Japanese and Korean versions of ‘Dream’ in September.

Meghan and Harry are sending Archie, two, to Californian nursery teaching 'emotional literacy' and 'how to be kind' and his classmates have no idea he's royal, fellow parent claims

  • California school also teaches Spanish, music, dance, theatre and coding
  • Classmates have no idea that Archie or his parents are royal, fellow parent says

Harry and Meghan are sending their two-year-old son Archie to a nursery which teaches  'emotional literacy', it can be revealed.

The Duke, 37, and Duchess of Sussex, 40, who live in a $14million mansion in Montecito, California, often pick their son up from school where his classmates have 'no idea' he's a member of the royal family, a fellow parent has claimed.

The school also teaches Spanish, music, dance, theatre and coding as well as the less traditional mindfulness and how to be kind.

A parent of one of Archie's classmates told The Mirror: 'Harry often drops Archie off and picks him up, and seems like a good dad. All the parents have been laidback in welcoming Harry and Meghan, without making a fuss. And to the other kids, Archie is just one of them.

'They don't know his parents are royalty, and probably wouldn't care – unless Meghan was a Disney princess.'

The school also has small class sizes and children learn about the environment.

It has gardens with hummingbirds, fruit trees, plants, butterflies, bees and students as young as two hep grow and harvest vegetables.

The news comes amid reports Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to leave their £11million California mansion because they are 'not over the moon' with it.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly looking to move from their nine-bedroom property in the exclusive neighbourhood of Montecito after just 18 months as they do not like its location.

Insiders have claimed the couple are now looking at other places to raise their  children Archie, two, and Lilibet, six months.

It comes after they spent their first Christmas as a family in the sprawling mansion, even showing a glimpse of their baby Lilibet for the first time on their Christmas card.

The couple bought their mansion, which boasts 16 bathrooms, in Montecito, California, last year after quitting frontline royal duties and moving to the US.

The keys to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor were later handed to Princess Eugenie, who is living there with husband Jack Brooksbank and their son August.

Surrounded by lush green gardens and overlooking the sea, the couple's Californian home has a wine cellar, play area and a pub games room.

The home also boasts a gym, spa, cinema, separate guesthouse, tennis court, and a swimming pool.

The previous owner of the Chateau of Riven Rock – as their new home is known – was Russian businessman Sergey Grishin - who purchased the property in 2009.

Grishin is also the former owner of a different California estate - known as the Scarface mansion because it appeared in the 1983 Al Pacino movie - which sold for a similarly cut-price $12million in 2015.

In August, Meghan Markle offered fans a rare glimpse inside the Californian mansion during a message shared on her 40th birthday.

The Duchess of Sussex also showed the inside of the Californian mansion during an appearance on America's Got Talent.

‘Harry Potter’ Reunion’s Most Shocking Reveal: Emma Watson Almost Quit Playing Hermione Midway Through the Film Series - Variety

It’s impossible to imagine the “Harry Potter” films without Emma Watson’s indelible performance of Hermione, but the latter half of the series almost had to do a dramatic rework as she considered dropping out. Watson and her castmates spoke about her anxieties about the part during the HBO Max special “Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts,” in which the bulk of the cast reunited in order to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the film series.

“When I started, one thing that [the producer] and the studio spoke to me about was Emma is not sure she wants to come back and do another Potter,” David Yates, director of fifth installment, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” said in an introduction to the segment.

“People definitely forget what she took on and how gracefully she did it,” her co-star Tom Felton said. “Dan [Radcliffe] and Rupert [Grint], they had each other. I had my cronies, whereas Emma was not only younger, she was by herself.”

“I did find a diary entry that was kind of like, hmmm,” Watson said. “I could see that, at times, I was lonely.”

“I think I was scared,” she continued, speaking with Grint. “I don’t know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point when you were like, ‘This is kind of forever now.'”

“I would say I had kind of similar feelings to Emma,” Grint said later. “Kind of contemplating what life would be like if I called it a day, but we never really spoke about it. I guess we were just kind of going through it at our own pace. We were kind of in the moment. At the time, it just didn’t really occur to us that we were all kind of having similar feelings.”

“We never talked about it on the film, because we were all just kids,” Radcliffe said. “As a 14-year-old boy, I was never gonna turn around to another 14-year-old and be like, ‘Hey, how are you doing? Like, is everything okay?'”

Although Watson ultimately chalked it up to “The fame thing had finally hit home in a big way, no one had to convince me to see it through. The fans genuinely wanted us to succeed, and we all genuinely had each other’s backs. How great is that?”
