On January 29, YouTube sensation Jimmy "MrBeast" took the internet by storm when he shared a Twitter update, announcing that he and his team have helped "1,000 people see, literally." His tweet read:

The Kansas native uploaded a video titled "1,000 Blind People See For The First Time" on January 29. It began with the YouTuber providing context towards the endeavor, stating:
"It's going to be crazy! Most of us see the world like this. But here's the thing, 200 million people see the world like this (a very blurry image comes up in the video). But I just made it one less. She's just one of 1,000 blind people we helped from around the world."
MrBeast also explained how the surgical procedure worked that helped people regain their vision:
"If you're wondering how the surgery allows people to see again, it's because the lens in their eyes is so cloudy that they can't see through it. So the surgeon uses a tiny vacuum to suck up the clouded lens. And replace it with an artificial one. The surgery is that simple! They can see again."
The video concluded with the 24-year-old personality announcing a $100,000 donation that will help more people restore their sight:
"As a thank you because just you were so gracious in this video, we want to make a $100,000 donation. It'll bring sight to thousands of people."
In his closing remarks, MrBeast wondered if the video would get 1,000 more views from the people he cured:

Meet Taylor Swift at midnight and you’ll be greeted with the latest piece to her pop puzzle: Midnights, the visual album. Since its release, the album era has moved ahead with big chart streaks and hit radio singles, but in the midst of the nightmare Eras tour ticketing fiasco, the singer’s visual master plan has been somewhat sidelined. Now, she’s setting things back on track with the music video for “Lavender Haze.”
In the video premiered Thursday, which is written and directed by Swift, the singer is seen laying in bed with her partner while a record plays in the background. As she sits up, a cloud hangs over her head, and after lighting a match, an eerie “haze” fills the room. The scene cuts to Swift in her living room watching her lover as a weatherman on television as she sings, “All they keep asking me is if I’m gonna be your bride/ The only kind of girl they see is a one night or a wife.”
Soon the room is filled with literal lavender as she moves towards the television and pulls it apart to reveal a cosmic aquarium. Swift floats in a purple pool, and the surreal video ends with the singer in a floating lilac cloud.
Swift first previewed the “Lavender Haze” video in a teaser trailer compiling clips from all the music videos she made for Midnights. First out the gate was “Anti-Hero,” the controversy-stirring visual that attempted to communicate the singer’s personal struggles with disordered eating, among other things, but received criticism for its use of the word “fat” in place of numbers on scale.

Shaking off the backlash, Swift shared the shimmering visual for “Bejeweled,” a self-love anthem full of positive affirmations. In the video, she slips into the role of Cinderella, with HAIM stepping in as her mean stepsisters and Laura Dern as her evil stepmother. Originally formed 47 years ago as a Quran recital group, the band now numbers a dozen performers, fusing Arabic and traditional Indonesian dangdut music, which was once thought tacky and dated in cosmopolitan circles.
Their humorous Islamic pop tunes about serious themes, such as justice and human rights, have caught on with social media-obsessed young people looking for some levity in their playlists.
Riding the wave of Indonesia’s increasingly vibrant music scene, the band’s droll lyrics have gained them a certain notoriety.
Their songs are laden with similes and metaphors, comparing womanisers to “seditious bats” or describing how “monkeys like to carry rifles, humans like to show nipples”.
Twenty-three-year-old Fathul Amin said he thinks the band is “more than just cool”.
“Why? Because all of the members are women who can play more than three musical instruments,” he said.
Screen grabs of Nasida Ria’s expressive words have been widely shared as memes, forging a connection between the band and the younger generation.
“That is how youths communicate nowadays, and that is OK. More importantly, it shows that our messages through the songs are well accepted,” Djamain told AFP.
“I am grateful that despite the mostly old members, Nasida Ria is still loved by the youths. That our music is still enjoyable to them.”

The K-pop group, aka TXT, released a preview of its video for the song "Sugar Rush Ride" on Tuesday.
The "Sugar Rush Ride" teaser shows the members of TXT lounging under a pink willow tree. The group enjoy nature as they soak up the sun.
"Sugar Rush Ride" is the title track from TXT's forthcoming EP, The Name Chapter: Temptation. The group will release the EP and the full "Sugar Rush Ride" music video Friday.
The Name Chapter: Temptation also features the songs "Devil by the Window," "Happy Fools," "Tinnitus" and "Leaving Neverland." TXT shared a highlight medley for the EP on Sunday.
The Name Chapter: Temptation will be TXT's first EP since Minisode 2: Thursday's Child, released in May.
TXT consists of Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueningkai. The group made its debut in 2019.

After narrowly escaping the confines of the strict Boston quarantine zone with their lives intact in the first episode, on continues the dangerous adventures of Joel (Pedro Pascal), Tess (Anna Torv) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in the second episode of HBO’s live-action adaptation of The Last of Us. “Infected,” directed by video game creator and series co-writer Neil Druckmann in his debut, takes a nearly beat-by-beat approach from the source material while injecting thrilling excitement for general audiences and eagle-eyed gamers alike. Druckmann’s use of fun camera techniques, such as manipulating the depth of field and employing close-ups with shaky cam movements, makes it feel like the audience is alongside the characters on their daunting journey.

Oh no, just when we thought time jumps were over, we are spirited away yet again to 2003. However, this time, we arrive in Jakarta, Indonesia, where Ibu Ratna (Christine Hakim), an esteemed professor of mycology at the University of Indonesia, examines a mysterious sample of Ophiocordyceps under a microscope. It’s just another member of the larger Cordyceps fungi family, but what was it doing here and why is everyone so afraid of it? When Ratna’s informed that the sample was taken from a human subject, she quickly dismisses the notion; it’s simply impossible for Cordyceps to thrive in humans.
And yet… when a team of government officials take her to an observation room, where the body of an infected dead woman lies on display, Ratna has one hell of a wake-up call. When Ratna punctures the woman’s bite wound with a scalpel, she’s not greeted with a gush of blood but instead a patch of mossy Cordyceps. Super gross. Still confused about what she’s seeing, Ratna then checks the woman’s throat with her forceps and is horrified to find a different patch of stringy fungal cords writhing around, looking for a new host. She immediately drops her tools, heads out of the room, and tells the officers to “bomb the city and everyone in it.” No vaccine or medicine can help combat this sudden, unprecedented outbreak.
Now we jump back to the present timeline in 2023, where we last left Tess, Joel and Ellie as they continue to make their way toward the Massachusetts State House. Ellie wakes up under observation by Joel and Tess, who have their guns pointed at her. Once again, Ellie explains she’s not infected and shows them her aged scar as a reminder. See? It’s three weeks old and it hasn’t mutated. Tess is intrigued by the phenomenon. As for Joel? Well, he’s ready to pull the trigger on her if she so much as twitches.
Under duress, Ellie divulges the rest of Marlene’s top-secret plan. Supposedly, a medical base camp out west is trying to make a vaccine, and she figured Ellie’s immunity would significantly help their efforts. Joel still stubbornly calls bullshit, but Tess convinces him to continue the mission because without delivering Ellie to the State House Fireflies, they won’t get the supplies they need to track down Tommy—which was Joel’s original plan sans Ellie anyway.
As they forage through the decayed city’s unkempt foliage, they hit a fork in the road. They can get to the State House the long way by traversing collapsed highways and buildings, or they can do the “we’re f**king dead way,” as Tess calls it, by taking a shortcut straight through the middle of the city, leaving them overexposed to wandering infected. Joel decides to take the girls on a trip through the city museum. (We love a man of culture.)
Before stepping in, Tess explains to Ellie that the fungus grows underground, so it’s important to be careful where they step. Because if they step on a patch of Cordyceps in one place, they can wake up hordes of infected from somewhere else and alerting the hivemind to their exact location would make it nearly impossible to avoid them.
The trio soon finds out that entering the museum was a mistake. The building is swarming with Clickers, a specialized breed of infected that have lost their eyesight but use echolocation to find their victims. Joel warns Ellie as they proceed further into the museum, “From this point on, we are silent. Not quiet. Silent.” But, of course, nothing ever goes to plan. Split up and cornered in the museum, each trio member has a terrifying encounter with a Clicker before they are brought back together again. Phew!
Finally, the group makes it to the State House. But something is terribly wrong when they get there: all the remaining Fireflies are freshly dead from infection. Who can they give Ellie to now? Disappointed by the botched mission, Joel suggests they all go back to the Boston QZ. Tess then reveals that she can’t go back; she was bitten during her struggle at the museum. Devastated, Joel forgets the first rule of Zombie Fight Club, never disrupt the Cordyceps hivemind. Joel shoots a nearby infected Firefly, whose death triggers a rabid horde of other infected to make a run for the State House. Joel and Ellie have to move quickly, or they’re dead. Using the Fireflies’ supplies, Tess creates a trap by spilling gasoline all around the floor of the building. In her last words to Joel, she begs him to keep Ellie safe and to take her to their friends Bill and Frank. Joel and Ellie manage to make it outside of the building just as a gang of infected swarm Tess. The building blows up successfully, and a remorseful Ellie looks back at the wreckage.
What a doozy of an episode! Will Joel keep his promise to Tess? And will Bill and Frank be able to assist Joel and Ellie with the next part of their mission if so?

Six years into his eponymous brand, Ludovic de Saint Sernin wanted to “take a minute to realize that he’s living his dream,” he said backstage after his Sunday morning show.
Not only has he grown his own cult following and weathered the pandemic as an independent label, but he’ll be making his debut as creative director of Ann Demeulemeester in March.
But he barely skipped a beat. With speakers blaring clips that proclaimed “sexy, glamorous, the best” and other sound bites of the young and successful, de Saint Sernin sent out a lineup that was structured by Instagram’s three-photo rows and the desire to achieve “the perfect grid.”
Out came a series of triptychs around denim, his mermaid dresses, his allover monogram and knitwear, which he said was repurposed from previous seasons. He also added fur-like frayed denim, a more craft-intensive side he’d fantasized about as a kid.
All of this was speaking to his fans, which were plentiful on the benches, dressed in his body-beautiful wares despite the chilly morning.
The designer said he felt it was important to develop a wider range of product to match this “more grown-up” phase, multiplying the cuts for trousers or exploring categories like outerwear, albeit more suited for winters in Los Angeles than Paris.
And there were plenty of pieces that could also speak to a wider clientele like tailored shirting, to larger models who broadened the definition of the LDSS devotee.
In a moment where he’s about to reach a whole new audience in his new gig, it spoke of potential.
TWICE has previewed its upcoming new EP, Our Youth, with the bubbling English-language track “Moonlight Sunrise.”
The infectious new song is the JYP Entertainment girl group’s second original English language track, coming after 2021 hit single “The Feels.”
“Moonlight sunrise/Baby, come be my starlight,” the K-pop titans ask in the chorus. “Moonlight sunrise/Oh baby, just to make you stay/Moonlight sunrise/Baby, let’s do it all night/Moonlight sunrise, I guarantee I gotcha.”

“Moonlight Sunrise” serves as the pre-release single for Our Youth, which will follow the track in March 2023. No further details about that record have been confirmed at present, but it will mark the group’s 12th mini-album so far.
Last year, TWICE ended a phenomenal year by earning the title of the most streamed female K-pop group on Spotify in the US. The nine-member group racked up nearly 300 million streams on the platform last year alone, bringing its cumulative number to over 5.5 billion streams at the end of the year.
The achievement followed the group releasing its 11th mini-album Between 1&2, which entered the Billboard 200 chart at No.3. The record also holds the biggest pure sales week for an album by a female K-Pop act in the U.S. With an impressive 100,000 total units sold in the U.S. alone in its first week, the release extended TWICE’s record for the most top 10 debuts on the chart among all K-Pop female acts. The group also played their biggest US shows to date with two special encore dates at LA’s Banc Of California Stadium.
Outside of the group’s activities, eldest member Nayeon also made history. In the summer, she made her solo debut with the EP IM NAYEON, which landed in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 Album Chart. The feat made her the first K-pop soloist to ever debut in the Top 10.

Some people have sports. Others, straight women and gay men especially, have Bravo’s Real Housewives. Fans tune in every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday night to watch women from various regions in the United States risk their dignity and cut one another down via gossip and bitchy confessionals.
But just like sports, the shows themselves can be impenetrable to outsiders.
Many of these women are not housewives, but single, or divorced, or in the process of getting a divorce. Some of them don’tlive in the cities that their shows are based out of. And given that cameras follow their every move and their appearances are based on contracts, it’s a stretch to call the circumstances of their existence “real.”
Instead of points per game or efficiency, when Housewives fans discuss their faves, the stats are wines thrown, insults lobbed, and parties ruined. And just like circuitous conversations sports fans have about who is the GOAT, Housewives fans have their own complicated criteria for what makes a “good” or “bad” housewife. It can be difficult to grasp.
In an effort to lend clarity to this phenomenon of “good” wives behaving badly, I spoke to the foremost Bravo expert in the land, Brian Moylan. Moylan is the author of The Housewives: The Real Story Behind the Real Housewives and veteran Real Housewives recapper. He’s studied the Housewives for years, and if there’s anyone who can explain what makes these shows tick and what makes these women occupy such prominent positions in pop culture, it’s him. And according to the scholar, it’s a combination of absurdity, pettiness, delusion, and, maybe surprisingly, a lot of joy.
So Brian, how would you explain a “good” housewife and a “bad” housewife to a complete normie?
One of the things I love about the fandom is that, no matter who the housewife is, there are people that love her, and there are people that hate her. And so I think to everybody, there are differences on what makes a good housewife and what makes a bad housewife. And I think if you ask most fans, it’s just who they like and who they don’t like. So, I don’t think it’s really scientific. I also think that there are different kinds of fans.
I’m a fan. You’re a fan. What kind of fans are we talking about? In your book, you talk about “sincere” fans and “ironic” fans. What’s the difference?
“Sincere” fans are people who want to be on Housewives. They emulate these women.
They’re the people who are like, “Oh my god, if Andy Cohen did a Real Housewives of Cincinnati, I would be so good.” Those are the “sincere” fans, and they tend to like people who are more dramatic. Those are women who are bringing the fights, who are bringing the craziness, who are stirring up trouble, who are making the storylines happen on the show, women like Lisa Rinna or Kenya Moore.
I feel like when you say those names, for seasoned Bravo watchers, it brings to mind a very specific kind of housewife. Like there’s a distinction between whether this person is good TV and whether this person is a good person. You can love someone on television and recognize that they create fantastic reality TV moments and at the same time realize they might be an emotional terrorist in real life.
I mean, there’s some of both types [of fan] in all of us. I tend to be more on the ironic side. I like someone more like Sonja Morgan. She doesn’t know what she’s doing, necessarily. But she’s amazing to watch because there’s like a deep darkness inside her. She’s trapped in the past, like, it’s a very Blanche DuBois kind of thing.
I think that there’s a difference in Housewives where there’s someone like Sonja, who’s good at her job just by being an interesting person. And she’s bringing something to the show by reacting to it, being part of it, and she’s engaging to watch. But then there’s someone like Kenya, who is good at her job, where she’s showing up with the “cookie lady,” she’s showing up with the marching band, she’s driving the storyline forward.
Kenya will instigate. She will show up with the scandalous “cookie lady” who’s at the epicenter of one of the husband’s cheating allegations and make sure the cameras are rolling. In real life, that’s mortifying and awful, but on the show, fans love it.
But sometimes they don’t. This past season onBeverly Hills, Lisa Rinna brought all the drama in her spat with Kathy Hilton. And I don’t know if this is real life, since I’m terminally online, but it just seemed likeeveryonehatedher— on Twitter, on Instagram, on every platform, people just wanted her off the show and would talk about her like she was a demonic entity. Her contractwasn’t renewedfor the upcoming season.
Well, so I kind of say that there are two types of Housewives that fans tend to like. But the thing above all of that — what Housewives fans want, what casting directors want, what producers want, what everybody wants, is authenticity. They want people who are real. They want people who are being themselves. They want people who are willing to live their lives in public for our entertainment. And I think the thing that Lisa Rinna lost was authenticity because you could feel that she was going after Kathy Hilton and not because she thought whatever Kathy Hilton did was so bad but because she was trying to get Kathy for the sake of the show.
She flew too close to the sun.
She flew too close to the sun! She was creating a gripe that wasn’t there. Whereas when she’s breaking a glass at Kim Richards, that was Lisa being her real self and then you’re like, “oh, bitch, I fucking love you.”
I want to ask you about the reaction though. You need villains on the show. These shows aren’t about friendships and everyone getting along. As much as people say they’d like it, no one wants to watch that!
I think that we need to respect the villains on the show because they do drive these storylines. Lisa Rinna pointed out she got booed at Bravo Con, and she said afterward that in professional wrestling, there are people who get booed all the time and they’re some of the biggest stars. And I agree with her! We do need some of that. But you need somebody who’s coming from a place of authenticity and someone who also allows themselves to really be vulnerable.

I think that Lisa became just like this caricature of a person on a show, rather than a real human being. And I think that’s because, you know, she talked about her mother’s death, obviously, but she never really let us in. She never really had her own story. And I think that’s part of what lost people.
A term that gets tossed around when we talk aboutHousewivesis how it’s almost like a game or a team sport. There are housewives that know how to play ball, and know what good television is. AHousewivesdoes not happen in a bubble; so many franchises have had multiple seasons and some go all the way back to 2006. At this point, when someone is cast, they have to know what to expect, right?
When it comes to the “team sport” aspect, I think the key is that every show has an ensemble cast. Everybody has to play their part. If you had all Kenyas or all Lisa Rinnas you would be exhausted. All Sonja Morgans and all Shannon Beadors? Exhausted! You need housewives like Emily Simpson, who’s going to be in there and kind of make fun of it, and be the voice of reason. And so I think that that also makes Emily a good housewife, even though she is not doing some of the other things that the women are doing.
Or you look at early seasons of Bethenny Frankel and Carole Radziwill. Women like that are your kind of fan surrogates, people who you actually want to be friends with. I think that everybody needs to play their role. And I think that the best housewives know their role, know who they are, and show up as themselves to live authentically.
I think we’re getting to a question I want to ask but sideways which is: What makes a bad housewife?
Oh my god. Yes!
The most recent and maybe the biggest flop in recent memory isBeverly Hills’sDiana Jenkins.Housewivesfans rarely agree on much, but they seemed to be united against Diana. And I think what was so weird is that you had a woman that on paper — rich, kind of bitchy, had the self-awareness to make fun of herself, was sort of like Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya onThe White Lotus— and the fans absolutely did not like her.
You think about it, and she’s everything producers want. She’s attractive. She has the trappings of wealth. She’s married to a hot guy. She has famous friends. But yeah, she seemed like she didn’t want to be there. She was not interested in this enterprise whatsoever.
When I was researching the book, I talked to a producer who said that what you need to do is figure out why each of these women are on the show and that is their storyline. So it’s like they’re looking for love. They’re looking for a business. They want to be famous, whatever.
With Diana, I don’t think I ever figured out why she was there.
It’s hard to say who the worst housewife is. Because usually, if they’re bad, they’re gone. The worst housewives are women who are just boring and who can’t deal with the show.
I want to ask you about this last season ofSalt Lake City.What a horrendous experience for everyone involved. What went wrong?
This season of Salt Lake City, we saw what happens if you were to cast all Lisa Rinnas. Like, all of these women were trying to make storylines happen inauthentically against the other women because they all hate each other. I wrote about this in my newsletter recently, like, I’m a little worried about some of the Housewives because they seem miserable.
Everybody on Salt Lake City seems miserable. You look at this season of Potomac, Candiace Dillard seems miserable.
Okay, but if I had to deal withAshley,Gizelle, andRobynI would be miserable too.
But Karen Huger? Miserable. She does not want Charrisse there. You look at Teresa and Melissa Gorga on New Jersey — miserable. They can’t be around each other and don’t want to breathe the same air.
So I think what you’re saying is thatHousewivesneed to be a little joyful.
There needs to be a certain aspect of fun. And I kind of contrasted those people to what we’re seeing right now on Real Housewives of Miami.

Those bitches are showing up to a dog birthday party at a beach. They are happier than they have ever been in their lives. And I think the difference is for a majority of the cast of Real Housewives of Miami, they had the show taken away from them. They know what they lost. And they’re like, “I’m just happy to be here, I’m happy to be at the party, I’m going to have a great time, I’m gonna take every bit of juice from this I possibly can.”
Miami gets it. I feel like at the end of the day, it seems like the women realize that it’s all sort of idiotic and they can all be stupid together and get in a pool, be drunk, and laugh at each other and at themselves. You don’t get that sense with some otherHousewives.
I think that when the shows lose their joy, that’s the moment when they turn. And that’s the moment when fans turn on them. Because if you don’t want to be there, if you’re not having fun, if you’re not enjoying this experience, then we’re not enjoying this experience.
Veteran US rocker David Crosby has died aged 81, his representative has confirmed.
The signer-songwriter was a founding member of two of the biggest bands of the 1960s: The Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
His career saw him achieve the rare feat of being inducted to the revered Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.
His wife told showbiz site Variety that he died "after a long illness" while surrounded by family.
"His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music," the statement added.
Born in California on 14 August 1941, Crosby joined The Byrds in 1964 - a folk-rock group which scored its first hit with a cover of Bob Dylan's Tambourine Man.
His tempestuous tenure in The Byrds - a period during which he briefly dated singer Joni Mitchell - culminated in his being fired from the band in 1967.
Crosby, Stills and Nash came together as a supergroup soon afterwards, and performed their first concert as a trio at the legendary Woodstock festival in 1969.
They were later joined by Canadian singer Neil Young. This band, too, was beset by in-fighting and broke up after a few years - though has periodically reformed for concerts.
Hits written by Crosby during his time in the band included the hippy anthems Almost Cut My Hair and Deja Vu. His most recent solo album, For Free, was released in 2021.
Off-stage, Crosby had multiple run-ins with US law enforcement, and was arrested in 1982 on drug and weapons charges.
Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson led tributes, saying he was "heartbroken" at the news - writing on Twitter that his fellow star was an "unbelievable talent" and a "wonderful person".
Tweets were sent from Crosby's own account the day before his death was announced - with one stating that Eleanor Rigby was his favourite Beatles to song to play on a rainy day.
