"Can she leave the man alone": Netizens react to alleged KakaoTalk conversations between Han Seo-hee and K-drama actor Ahn Hyo-seop - Sportskeeda

Recently, an alleged Kakaotalk conversation between K-drama actor Ahn Hyo-seop and Han So-hee surfaced on the internet, causing quite a stir among netizens. Han So-hee is well known as the former YG Entertainment trainee who was tangled up in a drug controversy. She was sentenced to three years in prison and four years probation for smoking marijuana back in October 2016.

Later, she was once again caught up in another drug abuse case, where she reportedly tested positive for psychotropic drugs and was also accused of violating probation rules. Owing to her controversial presence in the industry, her alleged conversation with Ahn Hyo-seop blew up the internet, where she was reportedly asking the actor to join her for a night at a luxury hotel in Gangnam.

However, fans believe the actor's alleged response to her was cold, and they could feel the conversation radiated an uncomfortable vibe. Although fans are unsure whether the chats are real or not, they've been defending the actor on his innocence in the conversation and also demanding his agency to protect their artist against the malicious content that's been circulating online.

Netizens defend K-drama actor Ahn Hyo-seop after alleged KakaoTalk text with former YG trainee, Han So-hee, surfaces online

Back in October 2016, the former YG Entertainment trainee, Han So-hee was caught up in a drug controversy. She was accused of smoking marijuana, and after testing positive for the same, she underwent a prison sentence of three years, followed by a four years' probation period.

While this already created a negative impression about the individual among netizens, she was allegedly involved in yet another controversy in 2020. Han So-hee apparently tested positive for psychotropic drugs in July 2020 and was also accused of violating the regulations of probation and disobeying its conditions.

Given her history, fans were critical of the texts that were reportedly exchanged between her and K-drama actor Ahn Hyo-seop.

Since Ahn Hyo-seop used to be a K-pop idol trainee under YG Entertainment, around the same time as Han So-hee, the two are speculated to be acquainted. As per the alleged KakaoTalk conversation, it seemed Han So-hee was trying to reconnect with him after almost twenty years. She also reportedly followed him up with questions about whether he was willing to spend a night at a luxury hotel in Gangnam.

The actor, on the other hand, seemed to be uninterested in the conversation and also apparently criticized her for her vocabulary. Meanwhile, fans found her tone to be rude and threatening.

As the screenshots landed on the internet, some netizens were not happy with Ahn Hyo-seop's alleged exchange with the controversial Han So-hee. Many, however, defended the artist by stating that his intentions seemed to be in the right place, and he didn't appear to be encouraging her in any way.

While there isn't any confirmation of the legitimacy of these screenshots, several netizens speculated that they might be true, since Han So-hee posted pictures of a room at the Josun Palace, a luxury hotel in Gangnam, on the same day these texts were allegedly shared between the two individuals.

Regardless, fans have been demanding Ahn Hyo-seop's agency to protect the actor from the malicious events that currently surround him.

Ed Sheeran Trips and Falls Onstage in Japan - The Messenger

Ed Sheeran took an onstage tumble in Japan on Saturday — but he managed to play it off well.

While running up the steps at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, the "Shape of You" singer tripped and fell directly onto the stage. He took it in stride, recovering quickly and launching right into his performance.

Sheeran posted a hilarious video of the mishap on Instagram, replaying the incident in slow motion and inserting a gif of Keanu Reeves in Point Break giving a thumbs-up.

"Styled it out," he captioned the video.

"Crushed it," Diplo wrote in the comments. Calum Scott, who opened the show, added that he didn't even notice.

"I was at the back of the stadium with the highest view and I didn't see it so, well styled mate 😂👏🏻," he joked.

Sheeran, who recently won an Emmy Award for Ted Lasso, will continue performing across Asia through March and bring his Mathematics tour to Europe in the summer.

Saturday morning cartoons, streaming anytime: Why kids content is vital to subscriber growth - CNBC

In this article

Tinky-Winky, Laa-Laa, Dipsy and Po pose for a photo as the Teletubbies celebrate their 25th anniversary with the Lighting of the Iconic Empire State Building on April 26, 2022 in New York City.

"Tinky Winky. Dipsy. Laa-Laa. Po!"

Those four names, the iconic sing-song intro to the "The Teletubbies," have graced household TVs for nearly 30 years. While the library of episodes hasn't changed in decades, their role in American media has taken on new meaning in the age of streaming.

"Back in the day TV was a little simpler," said Dean Koocher a television expert, who spent years bringing international kids shows, including "Teletubbies" and "The Wiggles," to the Americas.

"Back then there were less gatekeepers, you know, there was PBS, Disney and Nickelodeon was kind of an upstart coming up," Koocher told CNBC. "The good thing was, if you ever could get their eyeballs, you had a much bigger piece of the market, because there weren't that many choices for kids."

Now, shows aren't just on traditional TV and there are far more places for parents and kids to find content. From YouTube and TikTok to dozens of streaming options, audiences don't need to wait to watch their favorite shows. Saturday morning cartoons are now everyday-anytime cartoons.

And that's good for streamers, too, especially as Wall Street profitability pressures mount.

Kids represent a unique demographic for the entertainment industry. Age-specific advertising laws mean companies can't market directly to them in many cases, but their viewing habits — often favoring repetition of content — makes them exceptionally loyal consumers.

At a time when streaming services are eager to lure in new subscribers and decrease churn, having a hub for family-friendly content is one way to ensure paying members (i.e. parents) stick around.

"Kids and family-friendly content is critically important to both streaming acquisition and retention," said Peter Csathy, founder and chair of advisory firm Creative Media. "Franchise family-friendly brands are welcomed by exhausted parents looking for some down time as their kids get their screen time.

"Once those kids are hooked on a show, they never leave and will not let their parents even think of leaving," he added.

That's vitally important for streaming services, especially as consumers grow more cost-conscious and weigh which services to keep month after month and which services to ditch before the next billing cycle.

In recent years, legacy media companies — like Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Universal and Paramount — have scrambled to compete with Netflix in the streaming realm. For a while, Wall Street was satisfied with high subscriber growth and the promise of profitability in the future. However, as ad revenue from linear TV continued to decline significantly, investors quickly reversed course, demanding more immediate earnings growth.

Rinse, repeat

The unique thing about kids content is that streamers don't need a lot of it to keep kids occupied, said Koocher, who now runs Kidstream, a streaming service focused on providing kids aged 2 to 9 with appropriate, enriching content.

"Young kids don't mind repetition," he said, noting that while adults will watch a new season of a show and then largely move on to another, kids aren't opposed to repeat viewings in a short span of time.

"Kids are notoriously obsessed with the franchise movies, shows and characters they love, and will watch them over and over and over again," Csathy echoed.

This means streamers don't need to license or create as much content to keep these viewers coming back each month.

Currently, adult-only original entertainment on streaming services outnumbers TV-G or TV-PG rated content by nearly 270%, according to a study from the Parents Television and Media Council published in October.

"Seeing that less than 15% of titles on the major streamers is reportedly family-friendly, seems to me that most major streamers don't fully embrace this reality," said Csathy. "Franchise content is something that would be smart to prioritize. Very smart."

A number of major streaming services have kid-centric sections of their platforms for their proprietary kids TV productions, but many have also looked outside of Hollywood to license content from international production companies for U.S. audiences.

"A child in the U.K. or a child in France or a child in Australia or the U.S. have similar wants and needs at that young age," said Koocher. It's only as they mature that their taste in content begins to differ.

That's why shows like "Bluey," an Australian production, "Peppa Pig," a British production, "Masha and the Bear," a Russian production and "Miraculous: Tales of Lady Bug and Cat Noir," a French production, have managed to perform well in their native countries as well as in America.

Meanwhile, Koocher has found that kids today are still interested in old classics like "Barney," "Thomas the Tank Engine," "Madeline" and "Wallace and Gromit," all of which are available on Kidstream.

Koocher's platform, which costs $4.99 a month, is also home to newer programming like "Dot" from Randi Zuckerberg, sister of Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg; the animated problem-solving duo of "Bitz & Bob;" and the live-action animal show "Gudrun: The Viking Princess."

The future of kids content

Amid a desire from parents for more content and educational options, there's an opportunity for artificial intelligence to help speed up the animation process.

AI not only has the potential to hasten the animation process, but it also democratizes entry into the animation space.

"Generative AI will enable the streamers to generate new kid programming much faster and cheaper, which they absolutely will do," Csathy said. "Originality and quality is sure to suffer, but the streamers will bank on the hope that kids won't notice."

For Kidstream, the focus remains on quality over quantity, Koocher said.

"We're motivated by the parent or the caregiver, whoever's buying the services, just to be happy," he said.

The platform, which has been around since 2017, has more than 25,000 subscribers, a fraction of the major streaming platforms. But the company can get away with fewer viewers in part because it doesn't need to spend exponentially on new content.

Koocher, who has three decades of experience in the kids TV space, has seen the transition away from linear programming and says that audiences don't want to return to a time-based schedule in order to watch their favorite programs, with the exception of sports.

"I can see more niche channels developing where you can really super serve your customers, whether it's, in our case, for parents of young children or for European crime dramas," he said, alluding to established services like BritBox and horror streamer Shudder.

"On-demand streaming, I think, is definitely the way to go."

Disclosure: Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal and CNBC.

Paul Thomas Anderson Helms Music Video for the Smile’s ‘Friend of a Friend’ - Rolling Stone

The Master

The song comes of the Radiohead side project's latest LP, Wall of Eyes

Radiohead side project the Smile have released a music video for their recent single, “Friend Of A Friend,” which was directed by filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. The video premiered in 35mm alongside a surround sound album playback of the group’s new LP, Wall of Eyes, at a series of events at independent cinemas held in 18 cities.

In the clip, the three-piece band, which includes Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood alongside drummer Tom Skinner, performs in a school gym in front of a crowd of children. Most of the young audience seem unamused by the introspective, ambient song.

The Smile’s sophomore album, Wall of Eyes, is out today via XL Recordings. The LP was recorded between Oxford and Abbey Road Studios, and was produced and mixed by Sam Petts-Davies. It features string arrangements by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

Trending

The album marks the Smile’s second full-length together, and their first since 2022’s A Light for Attracting Attention. The record was previewed on tour over the last two years. Anderson also directed the music video for the title track, “Wall of Eyes,” which arrived in November.

In addition to releasing their new album, the Smile will also head back out on the road this year in Europe and the U.K., with dates in March, June, and August. The band will also perform at the BBC 6 Music festival in Manchester, England on March 9, where they will be joined on stage by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

"IT'S FINALLY HERE": Fans ecstatic as NCT's Ten rolls out teaser for his first mini-album, 'TEN,' his official solo debut - Sportskeeda

On Thursday, January 25, SM Entertainment announced that NCT's Ten will be making his much-awaited official solo debut with his first mini-album release, TEN. The album, which is slated for release on February 13, is expected to carry six full English songs, and fans can hardly wait to get a glimpse of the same.

While the idol has rolled out several solo tracks previously, such as New Heroes, Birthday, Paint Me Naked, etc., the upcoming mini-album release will be the idol's first official solo release, and fans have been eagerly looking forward to the same. This release also makes him the second-ever NCT member to roll out their solo debut, following Taeyong's debut in June 2023.

Given his previous promising releases, there's no doubt that NCT's Ten will stun and surprise fans with his mini-album. Also, the first teaser of his solo mini-album was released, thrilling fans all the more with its contents.

Fans thrilled as NCT's Ten announces his much-awaited solo debut with his upcoming first mini-album, TEN

The Thai singer and dancer who stands as a member of the 26-piece K-pop boy group, NCT, has been known for his extraordinary music and dance skills.

The idol impressed netizens with his iconic solo songs and mesmerizing performances for the same, for his tracks such as Birthday, Dream In A Dream, Paint Me Naked, etc. While fans were yearning for the idol to make his official debut, their prayers have been answered by SM Entertainment's recent announcement.

SM Entertainment revealed that the Thai member of NCT, who sits under the fixed unit WayV, will be releasing his mini-album, TEN. The album is expected to carry six songs with English lyrics and is slated for release on February 13 at 6 p.m. KST. Additionally, given that the album is named after NCT's Ten, it can be expected to showcase its own aesthetics and unique music color.

To further excite fans and promote the upcoming mini-album, a teaser was released along with a short description of what the album will revolve around. Here's what the teaser stated:

"When the midnight comes Pulling the strings, Beautiful monster royalty energy, I am yours, Playing my heart, ain't no way. I'm pure Bown and pray to ya."

Following the announcement, fans have been thrilled about the upcoming solo debut of NCT's Ten. On the other hand, another NCT member, Taeyong, will also be rolling out his second solo project.

While official announcements for the same haven't been made yet, it's been revealed that Taeyong will not only release new music but will also be rolling out a two-day concert at the Seoul Olympic Hall on February 24 and 25.

However, there has also been a small dispute between the fandom, as they expressed their displeasure with SM Entertainment organizing two solo releases side by side. Given that fans have been waiting for the solo debut of NCT's Ten for years now, they haven't been happy with the announcement that Taeyong will also be active simultaneously.

While there's no hate or blame towards the artists themselves, they've been expressing that SM Entertainment should've organized their solo projects better so that both the idols get enough attention and sufficient promotions. Regardless, fans have been rooting for the success of both their solo releases and are hoping that they both get the promotions they deserve.

The video showcased the member's unedited vocal and rap skills, naturally reeling in several fans to catch a glimpse. However, they were soon disappointed to notice the staff members' alleged disrespectful remarks towards the NCT unit.

In one of the conversations the members had with their staff during the recording of their title track, a staff member expressed that the group should concentrate more on showcasing what people like to watch instead of focusing on their performances, which the members were more interested in.

In addition, they also added that they can do more performance-centric comebacks when the group becomes more popular. This comment left many people angry.

Fans argued that WayV is greatly popular in several aspects of the music industry and called out SM Entertainment for not realizing the same. They expressed dissatisfaction with the staff for allegedly gaslighting the members into thinking they weren't well known because of what they do musically. Fans pointed out that the lack of popularity, if any, was more due to SM's poor promotions and management of the Chinese NCT unit.

Fans angered following SM Entertainment staff's disrespectful remarks about WayV.

In November 2023, WayV released their second studio album, On My Youth, once again stunning netizens with their incredible musical abilities and performance skills. Following the release of their much-awaited comeback on January 22, SM Entertainment rolled out the behind-the-scenes recording of the album's title track.

At the beginning of the video, the members listened to the demo version of their title track, On My Youth, and following the same, they continued to discuss its qualities. The member, Ten, also added that he liked the melody of the song, and the performance of the track can be expected to radiate a similar aesthetic to their previous track, Love Talk.

Given that Ten is a professional dancer with a keen interest in performances, along with WayV themselves being known for their mind-blowing stages, he naturally expressed his interest in performances. However, the staff members' reply to the same displeased several netizens.

"It's true that it's been a while since we're releasing an album. So we think we should work harder to bring out a positive influence. We want the song to be more well-known, but if we only show good performances, "Will the results be better?, "Will the general people like it?", we had these worries," the staff said.

They continued,

"So if that is the case, we guess choosing a song with a good melody that people can sing along to will be a better choice. Once we become more well-known, then we show everyone the performance capability. Wouldn't the synergy be better then?"

Following this, fans were angered at the alleged disrespect raised towards WayV. They expressed that SM Entertainment is aiming to create a narrative where the group's lack of popularity is due to their musical abilities, while on the contrary, it's due to the agency's alleged lack of proper management and promotions for the group.

They noted that the group receives relatively few comebacks and musical releases, and there are no preceding promotions to broaden the group's target demographic or exposure.

Fans further stated that WayV's recent ON MY YOUTH World Tour filled out all seats for China, which surprised the members. While the group does garner a lot of attention and has a huge fanbase, they are discouraged, as per fans, from believing the same due to the staff's remarks and comments towards the members.

Many pointed out that SM Entertainment needs to promote the NCT unit more, as they highlighted how the agency rejected many requests from variety shows, talk shows, and other events to which WayV was invited. Naturally, X and other social media platforms have been inundated with posts that have since called out the agency for their remarks while demanding better actions.

  • Sam plans to visit Indonesia again soon and wants his family to meet Citra's family.

90 Day Fiancé star Sam Wilson admitted he might leave America for good with Citra after getting married. Sam is a 30-year-old man from Cameron, Missouri, while Citra is 26 and from Bogor, West Java, in Indonesia. The 90 Day Fiancé season 10 stars met on a dating app. He had flown to her country to propose to her where he met her family and learned that he had to convert to Islam before getting married. Sam brought Citra to America on a K-1 visa. She had accepted his drug past and was aware that he could land in jail for having missed his deadline to apply for a diversion program.

Upon learning about Sam’s secret, Citra’s police officer father Herman wanted to take her back to Indonesia, but Sam’s recent Q&A session is shedding light on his current relationship status with Citra.

90 Day Fiance star Sam Wilson's Instagram Stories about post-90DF plans

One person asked, Do you and Citra plan on having babies? Sam replied, “Happens when it happens I am known to be a ho**y bas***d.” Someone else wanted to know Sam’s plans for the next five years. “Having kids?” they asked. Sam Wilson Wants To Visit Indonesia Again This Year

However, before Sam thinks about settling down in Bali for the rest of his life, he plans to go there for a trip soon. “What was visiting Indonesia like?” one fan asked Sam. “IK your wife would be used to it but what about your family?” they continued. Sam said visiting Indonesia was the “biggest culture shock ever for him. He revealed that people were really nice to him in Indonesia. Sam was treated like a celebrity. He said there was a language barrier, but he “would love to go back again this year” so he can meet all of Citra’s family.

Sam said that his own family had never been to Indonesia, but his brother has plans to go there next month. Sam’s brother is engaged to one of Citra’s sisters. His brother Timothy met Citra’s sister Nafa when her family came to Missouri to attend the wedding. Sam and Citra were supposed to get married in Indonesia and his family was not going to be a part of the ceremony as Sam was supposed to be visiting alone. If that happened, Timmy and Nafa would have never met. “They’re just alike, they’re kind of like twins but they are engaged and about to get married,” Sam confirmed in his Instagram Story.

Sam and Citra have a unique storyline, but at the same time, there has been a lot of curiosity about the way Sam looks. He has a “baby face,” as Citra calls it. Sam has gone all out to defend his jaw, which he says he inherited from the “Irish” side of his dad’s family, and he claims his teeth have been affected due to years of neglect. 90 Day Fiancé season 10 has yet to document Sam and Citra’s wedding, but his future plans suggest the couple is still together and happily married.

90 Day Fiancé airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.

ART SG’s Sophomore Edition Highlights Singapore’s Art Market Momentum - Artsy

The sophomore edition of ART SG swept away any doubts that Singapore’s newest international art fair may have lost its momentum. “I was afraid that it might not be as good as last year,” said Hong Kong–based collector Patrick Sun. “Sometimes the second edition of a fair can be a turning point, but the mood was electric. This edition was even better.”

ART SG, which opened on Thursday, January 18th, at the city’s iconic Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, saw a slew of visitors and steady sales throughout the weekend. The fair, which aims to cultivate Singapore as a key art hub in Southeast Asia, gathered 114 exhibitors, more than half of which hailed from the Asia Pacific region.

While there was a 29% drop in exhibitors who showed at the inaugural edition of the fair—blue-chip galleries such as Pace Gallery, Perrotin, and David Zwirner were among those that didn’t return—many remain optimistic about the fair and the city.

“Even if there’s [fewer] galleries showing, I do feel there’s more energy,” said the Singapore-based collector Pierre Lorinet. “Last year [the city] was a bit subdued. There wasn’t much going on around the fair. This time, all of the arts organizations like the Singapore Art Museum, National Art Gallery, and the National Arts Council really put on a show. Everybody was trying to do their part to make it a special week.”

This edition of Singapore Art Week, now in its 12th year, featured more than 150 events across the city. In the run-up to the fair, several local collectors opened impressive exhibitions including Lorinet and Malaysian collector Andreas Toh, both of whom took over spaces at the Gillman Barracks gallery district in the south of the island.

“The week got off to a really good start, which really helped to show Singapore was putting its best foot forward,” said the fair’s co-founder Magnus Renfrew of the various private and public initiatives taking place across the week. “This is the first step towards the maturation of the scene.”

Several local gallerists did particularly well during the fair’s VIP preview and vernissage. “The response has been overwhelming,” said Can Yavuz, founder of Singapore-based Yavuz Gallery. “The amount of visitors is really a reflection of the importance of Southeast Asia.” The gallery sold about 80% of its booth, which featured works by Thai artists Pinaree Sanpitak and Manit Sriwanichpoom in the range of $5,000 to $50,000. London- and New York–based Sundaram Tagore Gallery, which also has a space in the Gillman Barracks, sold most of its booth, including Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju’s vibrant painting of a waterfall for $410,000, as well as two other works by the artist for $320,000 and $240,000, and a piece by local artist Jane Lee for $76,000, among other works.

Many international dealers noted that collectors in Singapore typically take a more patient approach to transacting. Dealer Pearl Lam, who has spaces in Hong Kong and Shanghai, said that when it came to buying, inflationary pressures and high interest rates created a “more reserved atmosphere” among collectors compared to last year, but sales remained healthy. “Singapore has a thriving economy that has attracted a significant number of high-net-worth individuals,” said Lam, who described the fair as a valuable platform to tap into the city’s concentration of wealth, which has undergone a remarkable ascension in recent years.

According to a recent report by London-based consultancy Henley & Partners, Singapore has seen a 40% spike in its population of high-net-worth individuals between 2012 and 2022. The city has also seen an influx of wealth due to a staggering rise in the number of family offices.

“There are a lot of wealthy people in Singapore but not all of them are interested in art. Education and exposure are very important,” said Steven Lee, managing director of Taiwan- and Beijing-based Asia Art Center. The gallery, which is exhibiting at the fair for the first time, sold about 70% of its booth, which featured bronzes by Chinese figurative artist Li Chen and Taiwanese sculptor Ju Ming’s iconic “Tai Chi” series. Lee noted that he sold works to several new buyers from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Returning Hong Kong–based gallerist Catherine Kwai of Kwai Fung Hin was also pleased to meet several new Southeast Asian collectors and sold about 50% of her booth. On display were delicate ink landscape paintings on silk by Li Huayi, as well as works by Chinese French multidisciplinary artist Lalan (Xie Jinglan) and post-Cubist French painter Claude Vernard. Kwai decided to participate in ART SG again as she believes it takes time to cultivate clients. “This isn’t about selling handbags or clothes,” she told Artsy. “People have to get to know the gallery. You need time to create business.”

Kevin Poon, founder of the Hong Kong–based gallery Woaw, opened an outpost in Singapore last year and noted that the local art scene is in the early stages of growth. “ART SG reminds me of the first ART HK fair [launched in 2008],” he said. “I think it will take some time to build up the culture here. The local collecting base is growing but at a slow pace.” The gallery sold about 80% of its booth, including paintings by Japanese artist Keita Shirayama and New York–based artist Jon Burgerman.

Woaw was among the galleries exhibiting on the first floor which featured younger, more experimental positions. Among the highlights was the Lisbon-based Artemis Gallery, part of the fair’s digital spotlight sector. Visitors could put on a VR headset in its booth to experience Berlin-based artists kennedy+swan’s surreal work Animalia Sum (2019), reflecting the future of human food supply featuring an AI-created voiceover. “In Singapore, they accept new media compared to Europe where it can really be a challenge. We had a very good response,” said the gallery’s managing director Manuel Mendonça.

New York–based bitforms gallery also saw a great deal of interest in its booth, which included an immersive AI painting by new media artist Refik Anadol. “This fair is more experimental with showing new media art than bigger more established fairs,” said the gallery’s founder and director Steven Sacks. While the first edition of ART SG had a separate sector for technology-focused works, this year it integrated the booths into the main galleries sector. “Now it’s a more sophisticated conversation,” noted Renfrew.

The basement level, which showcased more established artists, was dominated by more traditional mediums with a particular focus on paintings. Big-ticket sales here happened at Thaddaeus Ropac’s booth, which sold a large Anselm Kiefer canvas for about €1.1 million ($1.2 million); and London-based gallery Waddington Custot, which sold a Barry Flanagan elephant sculpture priced at $680,000 to a Singaporean collector as well as a monumental multicolored canvas by British abstract artist Ian Davenport priced at $360,000 to a Middle Eastern buyer. White Cube also reported sales throughout the fair of £1.5 million ($1.9 million), with works by Jessica Rankin and Tracey Emin among the highlights.

Galleries were keen to tout the benefits of a smaller, leaner fair. “ART SG takes place right before Art Basel Hong Kong. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to have two fairs of a similar format with a similar reach two months apart,” said René Meile, partner of Galerie Urs Meile, which has locations in Lucerne and Beijing, and which decided to share a booth with local gallery STPI. “If the fair is more focused on the region and it’s not too big, I think it’s helpful for Singapore.”

Several newcomers as well as returnees said they see potential in Southeast Asia as the region’s collectors connect with their programming. Director of Cape Town–based Goodman Gallery, Anthony Dawson, added: “As a gallery dedicated to working with artists from the global South, we really feel the importance of working within regions that exist on the periphery…Singapore as a cultural landscape is developing and there are huge incentives to be here.”
