‘Community’ Movie Is Finally Happening, at Peacock, Fulfilling the Show’s Prophecy - Variety

Pop, pop the champagne: Maybe it’s not the darkest timeline after all, as “six seasons and a movie” is finally becoming reality. Peacock has ordered a movie based on the Dan Harmon comedy “,” bringing back original stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong to check in on what the gang from Greendale has been up to since the show ended in 2015.

Without sharing specifics, Peacock and Sony Pictures TV, which jointly announced the greenlight on Friday, described the negotiations for Peacock to secure the movie as “heavily competitive.” As part of the deal, Peacock has also acquired non-exclusive rights to the full six-season “Community” library, which can also be found on Netflix and Hulu.

“Community” creator Harmon is behind the movie as executive producer and writer, along with Andrew Guest. McHale also serves as EP, as do Russ Krasnoff and Gary Foster. Sony Pictures TV and Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television shingle are the studios on the show. (“Community” ran on NBC for five of the show’s six seasons, and Universal TV served as one of the show’s production companies, with studio lead Sony .)

“‘Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line from ‘Community’s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” said Susan Rovner, chairman, entertainment content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to get to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.”

Further details — including a director and an estimated premiere date — have not yet been shared. Also unanswered is whether other key “Community” cast members, including Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover, might still make an appearance — or at least a cameo. (It’s probably safe to say Chevy Chase, who had a falling out with the show and whose character eventually died, won’t be back.)

“Community” experienced quite a roller coaster ride during its original 2009-2015 run. The show launched in fall 2009 on NBC, where it seemed to perpetually live on the bubble. Pitched as a comedy about strangers who bond in a community-college study group, the show soon became an experiment in deconstructing the sitcom form, earning critical acclaim and a loyal fan base for its meta jokes, takes on TV tropes and its unique characters.

Washed-up lawyer Jeff Winger (as played by McHale), was the defacto leader of the group, along with Abed Nadir (Pudi), Britta Perry (Jacobs), Annie Edison (Brie), Shirley Bennett (Brown), Troy Barnes (Glover), Pierce Hawthorne (Chase), plus teacher-turned-student Ben Chang (Jeong) and Greendale Dean Craig Pelton (Rash). Other actors who played substantial roles on the show include John Oliver, Jonathan Banks, Paget Brewster and Keith David.

After Season 3, NBC and Sony, worried that “Community” hadn’t drawn enough of a mainstream audience, fired Harmon and brought in new executive producers. But after Season 4 (dubbed the “gas leak season”) alienated fans, Harmon — thanks to heavy lobbying by McHale and the rest of the cast – was reinstated.

Still, after years of dancing around cancellation, NBC finally pulled the plug on “Community” at the end of its fifth season. But that wasn’t the end of the line. Sony pitched a Season 6 to its then-sister ad-supported streamer Crackle, as well as Hulu, which held the show’s streaming rights. But none of those outlets could make it work financially. Then came Yahoo! Screen, which pledged 13 episodes at the show’s previous $2 million an episode price tag.

It was good for “Community” — but not so much for Yahoo!, which realized its investment far exceeded any revenue coming out of the show. By the end of Season 6 (and after a total of 110 episodes), “Community” had wrapped for good — as had Yahoo! Screen.

But that deal ultimately made the first half of the show’s tongue-in-cheek “six seasons and a movie” prophecy come true. That line was first uttered by Abed (Pudi) in the Season 2 episode “Paradigms of Human Memory.”

“‘Community’ was light years ahead of its time when it premiered on NBC in 2009 and we are thrilled to once again visit the brilliant minds of Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest and this impeccable cast,” said Jason Clodfelter, co-president, Sony Pictures Television Studios . “We are grateful to Peacock, our partners at UTV and to all the zealous fans who have cherished this iconic show.”

Added Universal TV president Erin Underhill: “This franchise is the very definition of community. We’re excited to bring the band back together and continue the journey of these beloved characters.”

“Community” won a Primetime Emmy for outstanding individual achievement in animation during its run and also spawned a tremendous fan base that even includes its own unofficial fan-led convention. Of course, since the show ended its run, “Community” cast members have all moved on to other critically acclaimed projects.

Talk of a movie has swirled for years — since even before “Community” wrapped. In 2014, before the show’s sixth season even aired on Yahoo! Screen, then-Sony Pictures Television programming president Zack Van Amburg said that a ‘Community’ movie, perhaps directed by either Justin Lin or Anthony Russo and Joe Russo (all of whom helmed episodes of the series) was likely. “I personally have had those conversations,” he said at the time.

In 2020, the cast (with everyone, including Glover, except for Chase) gathered for a table read and Q&A to support Frontline Foods and José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, tip-toed around the movie question, but hinted they were all game if a script were written. (Even Glover made it seem like he’d be up for it.)

“When I watch the episodes now, I have these waves come over me of like, first of all, my writers were amazing and probably didn’t get rewarded for it as much as maybe I thought the job was,” Harmon said at the time. “But second… the whole cast is just like a machine on a basketball court that automatically slam dunks everything that you put onto the court.  We’ve all had enough success individually that we all know it doesn’t get any better.”

But speculation about the movie actually happening remained just that — speculation. Until last month. That’s when Harmon told Newsweek that there was an outline for the film. “There is an outline for it,” Harmon told Newsweek. “There’s a product put together and pitched out in the world. I guess that’s how real it is.”

Harmon was hesitant to continue riling fans up, though, adding: “That’s probably enough that’ll make people mad when [there’s nothing] a year from now. It still doesn’t mean there’s going to be a movie tomorrow. It means there is definitely going to be one.”

And now it’s official, Human Beings.

Universal, Warner Bros. Discovery Execs Mull Future of Asian Theatrical Business - Variety

Leading practitioners of the Asian theatrical business participated in a lively discussion on the future of the sector post-pandemic and the signs are encouraging.

Speaking at the APOS conference in Singapore on Thursday, moderated by Variety Asia editor Patrick Frater, Stephen Laslocky, VP at leading research firm Media Partners Asia, provided a handy overview of the theatrical market in Southeast Asia.

Laslocky said that Indonesia, the largest market in the region, would be back to 2019 levels of theatrical business by the end of 2022. “In Malaysia, the demand generally appears to be back, the issue was the pipeline just wasn’t so great, particularly this year. But next year, they think that’s going to improve for both local, which has done very well this year, and for foreign films next year,” Laslocky said.

“In the Philippines, I’m hearing some slightly more ambiguous feedback from a lot of people – frankly, their confidence is a little beat up, they’re not sure where things are headed,” Laslocky added. The executive said that in Thailand, the problem is the economy, where 15% of GDP is associated with the travel sector, which has barely begun to recover.

“Compounding that is the fact that I don’t think that you have many really good local producers creating decent content there, and that’s a challenge,” Laslocky said. “In Vietnam, things moving along quite nicely.”

Subha-Orn Rathanamongkolmas, VP, South Asia, Universal Pictures International, said that whatever the overall state of the market, local titles have done really well in all those territories, in some cases placing on the all time box office charts.

“Next year, you’re going to see a lot of the backlog which was delayed because of production house and effects house supply chain issues – they’re all going to come to the cinema screen,” said Kurt Rieder, senior VP, theatrical distribution (APAC), Warner Bros. Discovery. “By the end of 2023, we’ll know much better exactly what this looks like. Because everything will be normalized – will be normalized for COVID, will be normalized for the exhibition being healthy again, will be normalized for the slate coming from both local and foreign.”

Both Rathanamongkolmas and Rieder said that while there was a space for medium-sized and independent films in the theatrical release calendar, the overall slate would be key in the sector’s return to normalcy.

“With all the slate that’s coming in, especially in the summer of next year, we will see that the slate will be the key driver,” Rathanamongkolmas said. “We still believe that there are people out there who want to see these movies and not only just the big blockbusters, not only the franchise titles, but there are people who want to see arthouse films on the big screen. It’s just we have to work with exhibition and being able to deliver those. So as much as this year seems very one-dimensional – it seems that only all the blockbusters are making are making money – but that’s also because of the slate that’s been released.”

Blackpink Dazzles In Chinese Designer Windowsen’s Design For Latest Album Visual - WWD

SHANGHAIBlackpink, the K-pop sensation all-girl group, never fails to surprise with their fashion choices.

In a series of recently released visual clips from the group’s sophomore album “Born Pink,” all four members – Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo – appear in Chinese designer Windowsen‘s crystal chain garments, which belong to the brand’s “semi-couture” looks from its Spring 2022 collection.

Chinese designer Didu‘s pieces also made a cameo in Jennie’s look.

This is the first time a single Chinese designer has dressed all four of the members.

According to Sensen Lii, the designer behind Windowsen, Black Pink’s stylist team at YG Entertainment reached out to him about five months ago to borrow eight pieces for the album shoot.

“It’s not our first time working with YG,” said Lii. “I am thrilled to dress Blackpink, of course, as their style is so hip, which fits the Windowsen style.

“I care less about whether the celeb or talent is influential or not. As long as their style matches us, I am happy to dress them,” Lii added.

Lii has previously dressed Lisa for her “Lalisa” single and in the group’s “How You Like That” music video.

Created by Lii, a Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp-educated designer, in 2019, Windowsen takes its name from the designer’s preference for the Windows operating system and a Chinese character from his name.

Inspired by drag queen culture and all things outer space, Li quickly made a name for himself in the local fashion scene.

His unconventional designs also quickly captured the attention of musicians and celebrities. Lii also has worked with the likes of Madonna, Doja Cat, Charli XCX and Ciara.

Wajahat Mirza inaugurates his spring/summer collection 2023 at London Fashion Week
Chicago-based Indian designer Wajahat Mirza inaugurated his spring/summer 2023 at the London Fashion Week with his collection titled ‘Lilibet’.

Hyderabad: Chicago-based Indian designer Wajahat Mirza inaugurated his spring/summer 2023 at the London Fashion Week with his collection titled ‘Lilibet’. He presented his collection ‘Lilibet’ in honour of Queen Elizabeth at the Royal Guard Hotel London. The name Lilibet signifies a girl’s name meaning “pledged to God”.

Lilibet is the fanciful short form of Elizabeth first noted as the childhood nickname of Britain’s Queen and now made contemporary as the name of the newborn daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — aka Harry and Meghan.

The collection revolves around the black and gold colour, where black signifies the mourning of Her Majesty’s departure and gold signifies the feeling associated with royalty. For this collection, Wajahat used various fabrics like silk, georgette, crepes, and velvet along with fabric pleating and a combination of intricate hand embroidery that was used in Her Majesty’s attire such as pearls, beads, and Swarovski crystals.

This couture collection primarily consists of gowns in full and knee length, as graced by Her Majesty on various occasions. Tailored capes to puffed sleeves dresses are primarily made as evening wear but can be elegantly carried at day events too. This year, the collection was presented physically and digitally with the hope for rejoicing and adaption as the new era of The Queen is completed and a new King gets the throne.

London show was curated and managed by Vizarath Baig, director of operations at Wajahat Mirza House of Fashion.

Wajahat Mirza graduated from Northumbria University London, with a degree in Fashion Design. His newest collection Mystique Romance is inspired by the juxtaposition of black and gold.

NMIXX Make Their First Official Comeback With 'Dice' - Rolling Stone India

NMIXX. Photo: Courtesy of JYP Entertainment

Shortly after making their K-con L.A debut, JYP Entertainment’s rookie girl group NMIXX are back with their signature ‘Mixx pop’ genre (a term coined by the label) comeback, “Dice.” The single leads the group’s sophomore EP ENTWURF, making it their first official comeback since their debut single “O.O.” in February 2022.

As with their debut track, NMIXX don’t shy away from an eccentric song structure with several genres meshed together in “Dice.” Opening with a dramatic classical arrangement, the song traverses through hip-hop and pop with soaring bass synth always lurking in the corner. The chorus utilizes the blazing energy of brass with Lily’s vocals echoing, “Let, let, let’s roll the dice, yeah.” Needless to say, there is a sense of disconnect between the genre switches and wondrous vocal delivery, an arrangement style we last saw in “O.O.”

Lyrically, the track explores the group’s ambition of moving forward irrespective of the curve balls that are thrown their way. Metaphorically using the overarching concept of a typical board game, the track further delineates how one can find fulfillment in managing the apprehension that a challenging route comes with.

“Diving into the clouds/ Riding the waves/ So what if it makes no sense, no more waiting/ All in now, go all in/ No need to think, go get it.”

The music video employs several dice-inspired frames to visually narrate the core essence of the track. Whimsical at its core, the images are heavily CGI-driven with several references from Lewis Carroll’s fantasy, Alice in Wonderland.

Apart from the lead single, the EP also houses the B-side track “Cool (Your Rainbow).”

Watch LE SSERAFIM's debut documentary trailer for 'The World Is My Oyster' - NME

HYBE has released a trailer for ‘The World is My Oyster’, a documentary chronicling the preparations behind LE SSERAFIM’s debut.

Named after a track from the girl group’s debut EP, ‘The World is My Oyster’ is set to feature behind-the-scenes footage including rigorous rehearsals and other preparations leading up to the group’s debut showcase.

Notably, the footage featured in the trailer has been edited to omit former member Kim Garam, whose exclusive contract with HYBE and Source Music was terminated earlier this year, to a minimum.

The documentary also features interviews with the group’s current members and HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk, which recount the public perception of IZ*ONE alumni Sakura and Chaewon’s re-debut with the girl group and the other members’ motivations for signing with HYBE.

“‘Why would you debut again at that age? What are you trying to do?’ People might think that.” member Sakura said in an interview for the documentary. “I really wanted to do well, this time with LE SSERAFIM.”

‘The World is My Oyster’ is slated for release on YouTube on September 17, 8 PM KST.

Apart from their forthcoming documentary, LE SSERAFIM are set to make their first comeback later this year. Source Music confirmed the news through a media statement issued earlier this month, although specific details regarding the project’s format, release window, tracklist and more have yet to be unveiled at a later date.

LE SSERAFIM’s upcoming return to music will come several months after they debuted in May this year with the mini-album ‘Fearless’, which included a lead single of the same name.

Louis Vuitton Men's China Spin-Off Show Sets New Livestream Record - WWD

QINHUANGDAO, CHINA For its men’s spin-off show in China, Louis Vuitton transformed Aranya, a seaside resort town in Northern China, into a larger-than-life playground.

The spectacle, livestreamed on eight platforms, including Weibo, Douyin, Kuaishou and for the first time on Dewu, China’s own StockX, attracted more than 278 million viewers online.

Building on the “magnified playground” concept introduced during the brand’s Paris men’s show last June, Louis Vuitton swapped a magnified toy racetrack with a blown-up sand scape that took more than two weeks to construct.

Louis Vuitton became the first luxury brand to host a fashion show at Aranya. Valentino will follow suit, taking over Aranya with art installations and a pop-up store to celebrate its Pink PP collection next week.

With strict COVID-19-related screening rules and frequent mass-testing requirements, arriving at Aranya was a feat in itself. The show was closely inspected by local authorities up until minutes before it started. But as Chinese celebrities, such as newly-minted brand ambassador Yilong Zhu, brand ambassadors Jun Gong and Chen Jin, actor Kun Chen, and TNT‘s Yaowen Liu got seated in the front row, the show began on time.

The Aranya spin-off portrayed a more poetic version of the original show, suggesting an idyllic lifestyle within the community.

Louis Vuitton’s Sandscape.

Before the show, a prelude video called “Mirage” made its debut to the livestreaming audience.

Produced by Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke and directed by up-and-coming auteur Wei Shujun, “Mirage” portrayed a boy’s travels from the edge of the Gobi Desert to Aranya’s 320-meter runway. The Beijing-based rock band Sleeping Dogs played a live score that launched the show.

Louis Vuitton’s men’s design studio introduced 10 unseen looks at the show.

“At sunset, by the sea, walking through the sand castle, models looked like a bunch of spiritual nomads,” Jia said after the show.

“It’s hard to tell if they are returning or going somewhere. As the last ray of sunlight disappears, the light of mankind lights up on top of the castle.”

For Chinese influencer Linxuan Gong, the show amplified the link between the brand’s late creative director Virgil Abloh and Aranya.

“Aranya is like Truman’s world. It’s a man-made world, just like Duchamp’s ready-made art, which is an extreme artistic expression of daily life,” Gong said. “Aranya is really that big of a playground.”

“We were in another world,” said Stephen Khou, skater and co-founder of streetwear brand Avenue&Son. “It was just perfect, great collection, bangin’ location, cool people, and dope sound, then we started partying super early, it felt like 4 a.m. by 10.”

“It feels uplifting, to be able to successfully host a fashion show at times like these,” added Zhuge Sujia, deputy editor in chief of Elle China and editor in chief and publisher of SuperElle. “But seeing the fun and quirky details of the clothes up close, you are reminded of the joyful moments in life,” she said.

After the show, guests enjoyed performances by local artists such as Higher Brother’s Masiwei, rapper Charity Sbb, indie rock band Carsick Cars, DJ Shao, and DJ Bigloco.

On top of the fashion shows, guests could be immersed in Vuitton’s playground-themed world throughout the Aranya community.

‘Genshin Impact’ to Be Adapted as Anime Series - Variety

An anime series based on popular open-world role-playing game “Genshin Impact” is officially in the works.

HoYoverse, the Shanghai-based game developer behind “Genshin Impact,” announced a partnership with Japanese animation studio Ufotable to develop an anime based on the RPG. It also released a three-minute “concept trailer” in announcing the project (watch below).

“Let’s step into this vast magical world of adventure together!” the games company tweeted Friday. “The long-term collaboration project between Genshin Impact and ufotable has begun.” The companies did not reveal an anticipated release date for the anime series, nor does the trailer provide firm clues as to what the show’s plot may center on.

First released in 2020, “Genshin Impact” has quickly become one of the highest-grossing mobile games. In the RPG, players travel throughout an open world in search of the Archons of the seven elements.

Ufotable’s projects have included “Ninja Nonsense,” “Coyote Ragtime Show,” “The Garden of Sinners,” “Fate/Zero” and “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.” In addition, the studio has worked on other adaptations from gaming properties, including “God Eater” and “Tales of Zestiria the X,” both based on Bandai Namco titles.

The announcement of the “Genshin Impact” anime came during HoYoverse’s first look at version 3.1 of the game, which is slated to become available Sept. 28. According to the company, the update for “Genshin Impact” will expand the new region of Sumeru and will introduce King Deshret’s Mausoleum, dungeons, new quests and weapons, and three new playable characters.

HoYoverse’s parent company is miHoYo, which established the HoYoverse brand earlier this year. The games studio’s other releases include RPG “Honkai Impact 3rd.”

Julia Roberts and George Clooney rekindle old romance in Ticket to Paradise — film review - Financial Times

After the happy ever after comes Ticket to Paradise, a sugary screwball served with a thick wedge of nostalgia. The director is Ol Parker, but more relevant still is producer Working Title, the veteran British romcom makers who once defined the genre — not least via the much-loved Notting Hill. Now one star of that movie, Julia Roberts, reunites with the company if not fictional beau Hugh Grant. Instead, her opposite number is George Clooney, the pair cast in a story crafted like a sequel to an imagined smash from the 1990s.

The twist is the starting point. Roberts’s busy art dealer and Clooney’s bullish architect enjoyed their picture-book moment a quarter century ago — one followed by a bitter split. Their names are Georgia and David, but let’s be real here, they are Julia and George, two megastar personas making a comic show of bickering when their characters are thrown back together. The pretext is another passion: a holidaying daughter Lily (Kaitlyn Dever) gone head over heels in Bali for gallant local seaweed farmer, Gede (Maxime Bouttier).

The movie is uncertain of how much it wants to make fun of the job. As it is, we learn more about monofilament lines and flash freezing than we might in other romcoms, with wisdom dispensed too about the harmonies of the ocean. “I am so out of balance,” Lily sighs. An engagement follows, pending married life amid the spa-treatment visuals. And so for artfully fuzzy reasons — er, something about their own middle-aged fear of commitment? — her estranged parents rejoin forces to crush love’s young dream, and return Lily to America.

While the headliners play wrecking balls, the film would crumble without them, built as it is on a deeply rickety script. Georgia’s new romance with a square-jawed pilot sees the same joke about upgrades made twice in the same flight; Gede and his family are set dressing; key lines are borrowed from the great 2004 movie Before Sunset, which just makes you want to re-watch that instead.

And yet there are Roberts and Clooney, doing the robot to Run DMC during a drunken Bali night out, and the sheer dazzle of star power and perfect teeth almost makes it OK. Of course, the love the movie really celebrates is the one that cinema-goers once reliably felt for big names of their ilk, as well as slick, mid-budget crowdpleasers such as Ticket to Paradise — a movie down on one knee, earnestly asking for another chance.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ Sequel Series Ordered at Amazon - Variety

Amazon has formally ordered a “Blade Runner” sequel series, Variety has learned.

The live-action project, titled “Blade Runner 2099,” was first announced as being in development at the streamer back in February, while Ridley Scott first revealed the show was in the works in November 2021.

Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but the title indicates the show will take place fifty years after the events of “Blade Runner 2049,” the 2017 sequel to the original “Blade Runner.” Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Ridley Scott also executive producing under his Scott Free Productions banner.

Michael Green, the co-writer of “Blade Runner 2049,” will also executive produce with Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Alcon’s head of television Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger of Scott Free, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett. Tom Spezialy has joined the writers room and will also serve as an executive producer.

“The original ‘Blade Runner,’ directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce ‘Blade Runner 2099’ to our global Prime Video customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television for Amazon Studios. “We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the ‘Blade Runner’ franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, ‘Blade Runner 2099’ will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Alcon Entertainment first acquired the film, TV, and ancillary franchise rights to “Blade Runner” in 2011. The company has since financed and produced “Blade Runner 2049” as well as the Adult Swim/Crunchyroll anime series “Blade Runner: Black Lotus.”

“We are delighted to continue our working relationship with our friends at Amazon,” Kosove and Johnson said. “And we are beyond excited to continue to extend the ‘Blade Runner’ canon into a new realm with the provocative storyline that Silka has created. Audiences first discovered Ridley Scott’s brilliant vision for ‘Blade Runner’ 40 years ago, and since then, it has become one of the most influential science-fiction films of all time. Denis Villeneuve’s follow-up sequel, ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ then became one of the best reviewed sequels of all time. So, we recognize that we have a very high bar to meet with this next installment. Together with Silka and our partners at Amazon, and Scott Free Productions, we hope that we can live up to that standard and delight audiences with the next generation of ‘Blade Runner.’”

The original “Blade Runner” film was released in 1982. It is loosely based on the Philip K. Dick book “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” Harrison Ford starred along with Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos among others. The film was not a box office success upon its original release but received strong critical acclaim and has gone on to achieve cult status. In addition to the original theatrical release, a director’s cut was released in 1992 followed by “The Final Cut” in 2007.

“Blade Runner 2049” saw Ford and Olmos reprise their original roles, with Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, and Dave Bautista joining the cast. Like the original, the sequel received generally positive reviews from critics. It grossed over $259 million worldwide against a reported budget of $150 million.

“Blade Runner 2099” is the latest large-scale genre show Amazon has worked on in recent years. Most famously, the streaming arm of the online retail giant is currently airing “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” There are also shows like the spy thriller “Jack Ryan,” the recently concluded sci-fi drama “The Expanse,” and the fantasy series “The Wheel of Time.”

Students share King's passion for environmentalism - BBC

Nina

Sixth formers have said King Charles III's passion for environmentalism was something they could identify with.

Pupils from King's School in Gloucester said his concern for the environment and Prince's Trust charity work could help him connect with young people.

Nina, 17, said sustainability was "something our generation is really passionate about as well".

"I think that's really going to help us connect with him as a generation," she added.

"If he makes changes in positive ways through sustainability, through charity work and helping others, I think this will help us all really appreciate the work that he does," added Rosie, 17.

Rosie

Willoughby, 17, said his previous work with the Prince's Trust was "something, as a young person, that is just incredibly admirable".

"It is impacting on people our age and we're able to see the results of that through things like funding for courses."

.

Reflecting on the role of the Queen Consort Nina said: "As well as being his supporter and helping him out, she can feel like she's got her role.

"She can make an impact on, especially, the women of our generation showing we have that independence."

She said during Queen Elizabeth II's reign "we've had such a change and such a wave of feminism.

"Hopefully (Camilla) can be a role model for us".

Secret Invasion teaser: Nick Fury returns to fight shape-shifting aliens. Watch - Hindustan Times

Secret Invasion is Marvel's upcoming series, featuring Samuel L Jackson in his iconic role of Nick Fury and bringing Emilia Clarke into the MCU fold.

The teaser trailer of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ninth original series Secret Invasion, was launched at Disney’s D23 Expo on Saturday night. The show, which stars Samuel L Jackson, sees his famous character of Nick Fury return to Earth after years to tackle the problem of Skrulls, a race of shape-shifting aliens, who are about to invade the planet without anybody knowing. The show also marks Game of Thrones-fame Emilia Clarke’s MCU debut. Also read: Emilia Clarke's first look from Marvel's Secret Invasion revealed. See pics

The teaser begins with a silhouette of a man being beamed down from a spaceship in a wooded area. As the beam of light fades, we see it is none other than Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), the former director of Shield. The next scene shows Fury in conversation with his former employee Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) on why he is back.

The teaser then gives a glimpse of several old favourites from the MCU, including War Machine aka Col James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and CIA agent Everett Ross (Martin Freeman). We are also introduced to some new faces, chiefly Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, both of whom are making their MCU debut with the show. We see how the shape-shifting aliens Skrulls seem to have infested much of the upper echelons of the major power centres of the world. Towards the end, Nick Fury says, “I’m the last person standing between them and what they really want.”

Secret Invasion is based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name. The book series focused on a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, who have secretly replaced many superheroes in the Marvel Universe with impostors over a period of years. The series is expected to take a different but similar approach.

Created by Kyle Bradstreet, the series also stars Ben Mendelsohn and Kingsley Ben-Adir as the ‘lead villain’. Secret Invasion is scheduled to premiere in early 2023, and will consist of six episodes. It will be part of phase five of the MCU.

Remembering Queen Elizabeth II - GZERO Media

Ian Bremmer's Quick Take: Queen Elizabeth II, the longest serving monarch in UK history and virtually in world history, is no longer with us. Queen Elizabeth has reigned under 15 prime ministers, starting with Churchill. And in this time, the United Kingdom went from global power and industrial powerhouse to a post-European middle power. She's lived through and reigned through the legacy of colonialism, the end of British Empire, and now of course the end of the UK in Europe. The death of the Queen and her succession will dominate the news, certainly across the UK and the Commonwealth for some time. It's going to overshadow the arrival of Liz Truss as prime minister and all of her major economic announcements.

There's a lot to say here. Queen Elizabeth has long been seen as the single most popular figure in Britain, and her death will undoubtedly be received with enormous sadness by a public that's been battered by two years of COVID crisis, on top of shambolic Brexit process, massive domestic political scandals, independence movements, particularly in Scotland. And on top of that, now an enormous cost of living crisis that's worse than any other G7 economy. So, it's not hit the UK at an opportune time at all. And the impact of her death really on the public mood should not be underestimated, given that the Queen has long been seen as a beacon of stability in the United Kingdom in an uncertain and very volatile world.

The prime minister and the leader of the opposition were told of the news of the Queen's failing health during exchanges in the Commons on this energy package that they're passing to try to take some of the weight of massive inflation off of the British public. And when the news spread, Westminster became unusually somber, with MPs talking of nothing else and speculating on the implications of her death. And I would say that the monarchy has remained popular in the UK largely because of the Queen and the extraordinary way that she has performed her duties.

Under the British Constitution, the Queen is Head of State, but without any critical role in government other than formally appointing her prime minister, which she had just done, and accepting their resignation, which she also just done, also giving her assent to pieces of legislation. But through the Privy Council, the monarch is kept informed of all government activities, but does not in any way influence them. So it's really a titular and a symbolic rule.

But as Head of State over 70 years, from Churchill now to Truss having served under her, Queen Elizabeth has remained utterly impartial. And I say that in particular because Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth's son and heir to the throne, has been far less cautious about allowing his opinions to reach the public's ear. And if the monarchy is to continue to succeed in the UK, he'll certainly need to exercise significantly greater restraint.

Affection for the Queen has been a critical factor in keeping the Commonwealth together and holding off calls in many countries for complete independence. And indeed, I would expect that Republican movements in countries with constitutional parliamentary monarchies will likely now grow. For example, in Australia, Republicanism is the official stance of the Labor Party. We'll see a lot more of that, I think, across the Commonwealth.

It's an odd thing for an American, this idea that you have a king or a queen with hereditary rule, however symbolic it is. And yes, it's certainly true that a lot of Brits complain about the lavish living of the royals and the scandals. But we should also be clear that the Queen and the monarchy are huge tourist attractions in Britain, and it's impossible to quantify the revenue that they've brought in from tourism. It certainly will have paid for much, if not well over, the cost of maintaining the monarchy.

But finally, Queen Elizabeth is loved across the world in an extraordinary and singular way. And in that regard, I just want to close by saying that we'll miss her.

Queen Elizabeth II: Plans for the Queen's lying in state and funeral - BBC

Treated image of the Imperial State Crown

The Queen has died, ending the longest reign in British history.

She died peacefully, surrounded by her family at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

In the days ahead, here's what we expect for her lying in state and her state funeral, as the nation pays its respects.

Scottish journey

The Queen's coffin will depart Balmoral estate in the coming days for the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh - the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland.

From here it will be taken in procession to St Giles' Cathedral, where the Queen will lie at rest for 24 hours, allowing the public to view her coffin.

The coffin will then move to London, ready for the lying in state.

The Queen's lying in state

The Queen will lie in state in Westminster Hall for about four days before her funeral, allowing members of the public to file past and pay their respects.

The grand hall is the oldest part of the Palace of Westminster, at the heart of British government.

The last member of the Royal Family to lie in state in the hall was the Queen Mother in 2002, when more than 200,000 people queued to view her coffin.

The Queen's coffin will rest on a raised platform, known as a catafalque, beneath the 11th Century hall's medieval timber roof. Each corner of the platform will be guarded by soldiers from units that serve the Royal Household.

She will be brought to Westminster Hall from Buckingham Palace in a slow procession, accompanied by a military parade and members of the Royal Family.

People will also be able to watch the procession as it passes through the streets and big screens broadcasting events are likely to be set up in London's Royal Parks.

Her coffin will be draped in the Royal Standard and once in Westminster Hall it will be topped with the Imperial State Crown, orb and sceptre.

Once the coffin is placed in position in the hall, a short service will be held. Afterwards the public will be allowed to enter.

When is the Queen's funeral?

The Queen's state funeral is expected to take place at Westminster Abbey in less than two weeks. The exact day will be confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

The Abbey is the historic church where Britain's kings and queens are crowned, including the Queen's coronation in 1953, and where she had married Prince Philip in 1947.

There hasn't been a monarch's funeral service in the Abbey since the 18th Century, although the funeral of the Queen's mother was held there in 2002.

Heads of state from across the world will be flying in to join members of the Royal Family to remember the life and service of the Queen. Senior UK politicians and former prime ministers will also be there.

The day will begin as the Queen's coffin is carried from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey on the State Gun Carriage of the Royal Navy.

Route from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey

The gun carriage was last seen in 1979 for the funeral of Prince Philip's uncle, Lord Mountbatten, drawn by 142 sailors from the Royal Navy.

Senior members of the Royal Family, including the new King, are likely to follow in procession.

The service will likely be conducted by the Dean of Westminster David Hoyle, with the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby giving the sermon. Prime Minister Liz Truss may be called on to read a lesson.

Inside Westminster Abbey

Following the funeral service, the Queen's coffin will be drawn in a walking procession from the abbey to Wellington Arch, at London's Hyde Park Corner before heading to Windsor by hearse.

The Queen's coffin will make its final journey that afternoon to St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Windsor Castle

The King and senior members of the Royal Family are expected to join the procession in the Quadrangle in Windsor Castle before the coffin enters St George's Chapel for a committal service.

St George's Chapel is the church regularly chosen by the Royal Family for weddings, christenings and funerals. It is where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, got married and where the Queen's late husband Prince Philip's funeral was held.
