ZEROBASEONE, formed through Mnet's "Boys Planet" and managed by WAKEONE, debuted on July 10, 2023. The nine-member group—Kim Ji-woong, Zhang Hao, Sung Han-bin, Seok Matthew, Kim Tae-rae, Ricky, Kim Gyu-vin, Park Gun-wook, and Han Yu-jin—quickly made waves with their EP Youth in the Shade. This debut EP not only sold over 2 million copies but also topped the South Korean Circle Album Chart and the Billboard Global 200 with the hit single "In Bloom."

Australian hip-hop has felt at an inflection point of late. OneFour’s aspirational drill continues to dominate despite persecution; Barkaa’s unsparing political screeds blaze from mainstream radio; the shapeshifting Tasman Keith has captured the attention of the country’s top music prizes. The work of each speaks to lived experience and social justice.
Amid the pack, a more psychedelic strain of rap has emerged, too: hybrid forms grafting jazz, funk, dance and punk on to the genre from artists such as Genesis Owusu and Teether and Kuya Neil.
Slotting neatly into this category is Agung Mango (real name Anak Agung Jordan Oka Wardana), whose new album In Belly We Trust speaks as much to the psyche as the street. It is explosive rap-rock, Eno-indebted textures and opiated R&B; it is an album that leaps – intergenerationally – through time and communes with Wardana’s ancestry. Like a tree’s roots feeding ripe, sticky fruit, it draws from the ancient to nourish the future.
On album opener Pray4taksu, in a candid recording, Wardana’s uncle Oka extols the virtues of taksu – a Hindu-Balinese concept that unites mystical inner power with the physical body. Wardana weaves his Balinese heritage and his experiences travelling the island across the album.
The track Pemecutan Napoletana brings his Italian side into the fold, too. Over a largely beatless tide of Balearic jazz, Wardana playfully references nasi jinggo banana leaf rice packets in one bar and San Pellegrino in another.
Much of the album floats in textural waves, but the single Gut is a frenzied rap-rock hybrid recalling Yeezus or NERD’s Rockstar. Wardana grapples with heaven, hell and the sense of time running out under the weight of the pressures that govern our day to day.
Gut isn’t the only explosive track, either. After a first half of gently plucked guitar, The Moth Prefers the Moon explodes like Bali’s serendipitously named Mount Agung volcano. The track tells the story of a ghost, here embodied by a moth, that has lost its ability to strike fear.
As its title implies, the album proposes reaching inside and trusting your gut. On In Belly We Trust, Agung Mango finds transformation through bridging the sacred and profane – you might call it taksu in action.
Karydas is no stranger to transformation – she began her career as Eves the Behavior before ditching the moniker and flirting with viral fame with the hit Further Than the Planes Fly. Burnt Tapes is another left turn for the pop singer: bracing and introspective in a rapid-fire industry. As she declares on the opener: “I guess I’m not a girlboss.”
Christine Anu – Waku – Minaral A Minalay (2 August)
She returns! Waku is Anu’s first original album in two decades, and it proves why she’s one of Australia’s foremost storytellers, weaving a personal history of her lineage and her grandfather’s migration from the Torres Strait to Australia.

Wameyo’s hip-hop is propulsive. The Kenyan-Australian rapper told the Guardian in 2022 that her music comes from “pre-meditation, pre-prayer, pre-crying” – Saint Sinner, appropriately, sounds like catharsis.

On July 15, THEBLACKLABEL unveiled the poster for the TAEYANG 2024 TOUR “THE LIGHT YEAR” in Seoul on its official social media channels, announcing Taeyang’s upcoming solo concert.
The poster features Taeyang gazing intensely ahead, sparking anticipation for the return of the artist known for his unique presence.
This marks Taeyang’s first solo concert in seven years since 2017, and fans are eagerly awaiting the stages he will present given his track record of hit songs and captivating performances. Plans for an Asia tour, starting with the Seoul performance, are also underway, heightening excitement among international fans.
Earlier in 2023, Taeyang released his second EP “Down to Earth” featuring tracks such as “VIBE,” “Shoong!” and “Seed.” Additionally, he appeared on Mnet’s “I-LAND 2,” which concluded on July 4, serving as the main producer for the division tasked with selecting the debut group from 24 applicants. His role garnered attention for providing both warm and incisive feedback.
Taeyang’s solo concert “THE LIGHT YEAR” will take place twice at the Olympic Hall in Seoul on August 31 at 6 p.m. KST and September 1 at 5 p.m. KST. The event introduces a new FAN and SOUND CHECK EXPERIENCE package, offering fans the chance to attend the artist’s sound check, photo benefit, Q&A session, and more. Ticket reservations will open on Interpark at 12 p.m. KST on July 17.
Byeon Woo Seok’s agency has issued a statement regarding the recent controversy over excessive security measures.
On July 12, Byeon Woo Seok left from Incheon International Airport for the 2024 Asia Fan Meeting Tour “SUMMER LETTER.” Following this, online communities expressed dissatisfaction with the level of security provided for Byeon Woo Seok at the airport.
In a video capturing the situation on site, Byeon Woo Seok’s security guard appears to be using bright flashes toward people nearby and blocking passage despite no apparent threats such as people rushing toward him.
In response, Byeon Woo Seok’s agency VARO Entertainment issued an apology. The full statement is provided below:
Hello,
This is VARO Entertainment.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused to airport users due to security measures when our artist departed from Incheon International Airport on July 12.
Upon learning that a security guard used a flashlight toward airport users, we immediately instructed him to cease this action. While we were not fully aware of the specific security situation at the gate, airline ticketing, and on-site security, we take full moral responsibility for any discomfort experienced during the security process. We sincerely apologize to those who were inconvenienced.
Moving forward, we will conduct more thorough checks and exercise greater caution to prevent similar inconveniences to airport users and the public. We apologize once again for any concern caused.
Shona Branigan said her muscles are "aching" from making the pieces
A collection of five prints created from the trunk of the Sycamore Gap tree have gone on public display.
The 200-year-old tree, which towered 50ft above Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, was illegally felled last September.
Printmaker Shona Branigan was approached by the National Trust to create the artworks, which are being exhibited at four locations along Hadrian’s Wall.
The giant tree prints show every ring, groove and detail from the cross-section of the almost heart shaped trunk.
Ms Branigan said: "I felt privileged to be asked so that I could honour not only the tree itself but all the people who loved the tree too."

Andrew Poad, General Manager for the National Trust at Hadrian’s Wall, said: "The Sycamore Gap tree was adored by so many, and we wanted to create opportunities for the public to further connect with the tree."
Ms Branigan described the tree as a "haven in a wild landscape".
"It's a really big piece and a slow process due to it all being done by hand.
"It's taken several hours, and my muscles are definitely aching after the effort but, now that the series of prints are complete, I am pleased and proud of my work."

The exhibition will run until 1 September ,before all five prints go on display together at The Queen’s Hall, Hexham, from 6 September until 19 October.

Woozi, the producer and member of the captivating K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN just moments ago took to his Instagram and responded to the unfounded claims made about the boy group using AI for their music.
Woozi was swift in responding and shutting down the claims of using AI and said “SEVENTEEN’s music is written and composed by humans”.
Woozi responds to unfounded reports claiming SEVENTEEN used AI to create their music
On July 10, 2024, BBC in one of their articles claimed that some of the K-pop groups are using AI to create their music. The article threw flame at the worldwide famous K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN. They wrote that the biggest K-pop stars are now using AI technology to create music videos and music “including boy band SEVENTEEN”.
The report unsurprisingly angered the fandom and the boy group themselves as one of the lead producers of SEVENTEEN, Woozi came forward and shot down the claims himself in a new Instagram update.
On July 14, 2024, Woozi posted a story which he later deleted where he posted excerpts from the previously mentioned article that claimed SEVENTEEN used AI to create music for their latest lead track MAESTRO “might well include AI-generated lyrics too”.
He also added the concluding excerpt of the said article which said that the artists will hopefully address the issue. Woozi added a laughing emoji in the story and some question marks in a way calling out the media outlet for reporting unfounded claims.

After deleting the above story, Woozi swiftly and completely shot down all AI claims made. In a new story, he said that “All of SEVENTEEN’s music is written and composed by human creators”.

Supernatural thriller Molder from Filipino director Kenneth Dagatan has won the top prize at the 17th Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) project market, which runs alongside Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifan).
The third title from Dagatan took home a cash prize of KRW15M (US$11,000) for winning the Bucheon Award. The project also scooped up the Blood Window Award, which includes an expenses-paid invitation to the Blood Window project market at Ventana Sur in Argentina.
Philippines-Singapore-Italy co-production Molder is targeting a shoot date in the second half of 2025 and is looking to cast a major Italian actress.
Dagatan’s In My Mother’s Skin from 2023 premiered in the Midnight Section of the Sundance Film Festival as the only non-English language title in the section, and was later acquired by Amazon.
“Bifan has always had a place in my heart,” Dagatan told Deadline, about his special relationship with the festival. “I first came to Bifan for the Fantastic Film School in 2019. In 2020, I joined the NAFF IT Project Market for my second film, In My Mother’s Skin, and we came back to Bifan for our Asian premiere in 2023.
“Now, being back at with my third film, Molder, it feels like coming back to where I started. Bifan feels like home to me, and I will always be grateful.”
Molder is set in the outskirts of Italy, where 60-year-old Filipino immigrant Cesar lives with his wife Agnes, who suffers from dementia. When they meet a mysterious young Filipino man named Anthony, Agnes disappears, and Cesar’s life turns into a nightmare of physical decay, marked by necrotic skin patches and horrifying visions. Cesar must race against time to find Anthony, whom he believes has cursed them, in order to find Agnes and lift the curse before it completely consumes him.
Molder is produced by Bradley Liew from Epicmedia Productions, Stefano Centini from Volos Films Italia and Huang Junxiang from Dropkick.
Liew said: “This is my sixth year and third feature collaboration with Kenneth. I guess it’s one of those relationships that’s incredibly satisfying on an artistic level. Working with Kenneth is always a joy because of his willingness to collaborate.”
Other winners at the project market included Vietnamese horror title The Heirloom by Le Hoang which won the NAFF Excellence Award.
Japanese dark comedy Push-Button Syndrome by Riko Murakami clinched the Asian Discovery Award.
Additionally, the TAICCA prize was awarded to Japanese project Bait, by director Daihachi Yoshida and supported by Toei Company.
The 40th annual TCA Awards released its list of winners on Friday ahead of the first in-person ceremony in five years. FX’s “Shōgun” led the winners’ circle, taking home four prizes from the Television Critics Assn. — including individual achievement in drama for Anna Sawai, as well as outstanding achievement in drama, program of the year and new program of the year.
The latest season of Max’s “Hacks” also saw success with Jean Smart taking the award for individual achievement in comedy and the series taking home the outstanding achievement in comedy award, beating out last year’s winner, “The Bear,” and 2022’s winner, “Abbott Elementary.”

When they meet a mysterious young Filipino man named Anthony, Agnes disappears, and Cesar’s life turns into a nightmare of physical decay, marked by necrotic skin patches and horrifying visions. Cesar must race against time to find Anthony, whom he believes has cursed them, in order to find Agnes and lift the curse before it completely consumes him.
Molder is produced by Bradley Liew from Epicmedia Productions, Stefano Centini from Volos Films Italia and Huang Junxiang from Dropkick.
Liew said: “This is my sixth year and third feature collaboration with Kenneth. I guess it’s one of those relationships that’s incredibly satisfying on an artistic level. Working with Kenneth is always a joy because of his willingness to collaborate.”
Other winners at the project market included Vietnamese horror title The Heirloom by Le Hoang which won the NAFF Excellence Award.
Japanese dark comedy Push-Button Syndrome by Riko Murakami clinched the Asian Discovery Award.
Additionally, the TAICCA prize was awarded to Japanese project Bait, by director Daihachi Yoshida and supported by Toei Company.
