Swift co-signed Rodrigo's pop hit by commenting, "I say that's my baby and I'm really proud" underneath Rodrigo's Instagram picture of "Drivers License" sitting at No. 3 right underneath her top two Evermore bonus tracks on the iTunes chart.
"What is breathing," Rodrigo joked in a separate, celebratory IG post highlighting Swift's motherly message.
But The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series alum has caught Swift's attention on social media before: Rodrigo posted her cover of "Cruel Summer" from Swift's 2019 album Lover on her IG Live for MTV's Alone Together Jam Session last April, and the pop superstar reshared her performance on her own IG Story and wrote "THE TALENT." And again, her comment left Rodrigo speechless and on the floor, according to her reaction post.
"I’ve never met her in person, but I posted a cover of one of her songs off of Lover, 'Cruel Summer,' like a weirdo, and I did it on Instagram Live and she found it and she posted it on her story and was like, 'This is amazing. Thank you so much,'" she told Lowe. "And I screamed my head off, I was so excited."
"Drivers License" is on its way to being the first runaway hit of 2021, especially after it set Spotify's record for most streams in one day for a non-holiday song, with over 15.17 million global streams. (And on Tuesday, the song beat its own record, with more than 17.01 million streams.)
"It's quite insane. 'Drivers License' is my first single that I've put out. So I truly loved the song always. I didn't really expect it to chart or do anything, I was just so happy with it," she said. "So the fact that it's No. 1 in the world right now is absolutely mind-blowing. I can't believe any of it."
