It’s a sad day for Daft Punk fans as the legendary duo announced their break up after 28 years. After almost three decades of iconic, electronic dance bangers, the Grammy-winning French pair has called it quits and it’s a big loss for the fandom that has idolized the robot gear-wearing artists Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, who have produced some of the most influential dance tracks of all time. In fact, they dropped the bomb in the most enigmatic and dramatic way, in their signature style of course.
The duo uploaded an Epilogue onto their YouTube channel and it’s a nod to their partnership, a reference to their 2006 film Electroma and an example of how goodbyes can come. The eight-minute long video has both in a desert where one attaches an explosive device to another, who in turn explodes into the nothingness of the desert while the other walks into the sunset. "1993 - 2021" appears signifying the golden and glorious and then it’s back to the walking into the sunset with the song Touch playing in the background. "Hold on. If love is the answer you're home." You can watch it below:
Soon, the band's publicist Kathryn Frazier confirmed their retirement to BBC without as much as an explanation. Guess, an epilogue is what we’re going to get. Reportedly, Bangalter and de Homem-Christo go way back, teenagers who met at school in Paris, and began making music together alongside Laurent Brancowicz. The group was called Darlin and put out garage rock music. It wasn’t until this review in music magazine Melody Maker called their music "a daft punky thrash" that they renamed themselves and switched to electro and robotic vocals.
Needless to say, fans are devasted including Pharell Wiliiams who collaborated with the duo in Get Lucky (2013). See for yourself.
Forever legends. 🙏🏾 #DaftPunk https://t.co/6nbJZRTJKN

I don’t think there’s any other band that inspired me the way #DaftPunk did. Unparalleled in everything that they touched. Especially when it comes to the passion + love they put into their work. Saw them live in 2007 & it was the best concert of my life. #DaftPunk forever 🤖🤖💜 pic.twitter.com/KqDtlcNBr8

Daft Punk left the game with a flawless legacy. I would say enviable but impossibly unattainable is more appropriate

Well, they are icons and icons are forever. They will be always be remembered for many classics like their 1997 debut album Homework, Discovery, as well as the soundtrack for the movie Tron: Legacy. Not to mention, the Grammy-winning albums Alive 2007, Random Access Memories and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
On a completely different note, Thank You, Christopher Nolan And Deborah Snyder For Not Letting Zack Snyder Watch 'Justice League'
