Talk about finding a way to “shake it off.”
Taylor Swift decided the best way to win her ongoing fight for control of her early recordings is simply to re-record and re-release them again and keep control of the new master tapes.
Swift, who has been talking about this for a while, now surprised fans Thursday by announcing the first re-recorded album, “Fearless,” is finished and will be released in April.
Furthermore the pop star released the first single from that record, a remake of “Love Story,” at midnight.
The new versions of both album and single are slightly renamed, adding a parenthetical “(Taylor’s Version)” added so fans know which edition they’re getting. The older editions remain in print and under control of a company owned by Scooter Braun, with whom she has battled with for years.
“Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” will include 26 songs, six of which have never been released in any form. The album is said to also include outtakes and bonus tracks.
The original, released in 2008, won Grammy Awards for Best Album of the Year and Best Country Album.
