Rosé Debuts Not One, But Two New Singles On The Canadian Hot 100 - Forbes

As a member of the K-pop girl group Blackpink, singer-songwriter Rosé has already shown the world she is not only talented, but also a serious hitmaker. Now, she’s stepping out on her own and stealing the spotlight in record time. She’s scored some very notable successes on charts all around the globe, but nowhere did fans show up more for her in the Western world than in Canada.

This week, Rosé scores not one, but two hits on the Canadian Hot 100, which is an incredible and historic showing for any South Korean solo musician.

Up first for Rosé is her debut single “On The Ground,” which arrives at No. 35. The tune breaks into the top 40 on the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed songs in Canada, combining sales, streams and radio airplay. Typically, when a track enters the top 40, it’s thought of as a proper hit, so now the South Korean star has earned a rare solo smash in the nation.

Further down the Canadian Hot 100 comes “Gone,” which opens at No. 77.

There have only been a handful of South Korean solo musicians who have managed to reach the Canadian Hot 100 at all. Even fewer have done so twice, and the fact that she scored a pair of simultaneous placements shouldn’t go without notice. Her two fast smashes are a surefire sign that Rosé has a dedicated Canadian fan base that was eager to not just hear what she sounds like unaccompanied, but to snap up her tunes.

“On The Ground” and “Gone” were released together as a single collection titled R. The former track is the real focus, but fans consumed the latter title in large enough numbers that it, too, finds its way to the Canadian Hot 100 as well. Both songs benefit greatly from strong sales, and the two also appear on the Canadian Digital Song Sales ranking this frame.

Blackpink has charted 11 songs on the Canadian Hot 100, and impressively, Rosé isn’t the first member to reach the tally on her own. Fellow bandmate Jennie placed her track, the appropriately-titled “Solo,” on the list back in 2018.
