MAPPA has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming Chainsaw Man adaptation. The trailer shows off the anime’s take on the manga’s character designs, and also offers a look at some kinetic and violent action scenes.
The staff includes Ryū Nakayama (Jujutsu Kaisen episode director) as director, Kazutaka Sugiyama (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation) as character designer, and Tatsuya Yoshihara (Black Clover director) as action director.
Other staff include Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Deca-Dence cyborg designer) as devil designer, Yusuke Takeda (Vivy -Fluorite Eye’s Song-) as art director, Naomi Nakano (Kemono Jihen) as color designer, Yohei Miyahara (Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia technical director) as screen designer, and Kensuke Ushio (Japan Sinks: 2020) as music composer.
The teaser trailer for Chainsaw Man was directed and storyboarded by Nakayama with Sugiyama as the chief animation director.
The Chainsaw Man manga debuted in 2018 and is written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The first part of the manga is set to end in the second 2021 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, with the second part to be serialized on the Shonen Jump+ app and website.
Shueisha’s Manga Plus website describes the plot as:
The name says it all! Denji’s life of poverty is changed forever when he merges with his pet chainsaw dog, Pochita! Now he’s living in the big city and an official Devil Hunter. But he’s got a lot to learn about his new job and chainsaw powers!
