Boy band BTS’s latest song “Permission to Dance” sparked an unexpected online interaction between the K-pop phenomenon and legendary British singer Elton John.
“Permission to Dance” dropped on Friday, and its lyrics make a reference to John, singing “When it all seems like it's wrong, just sing along to Elton John.”
Two days later, John wrote on his Twitter “When it all seems like it's right, I sing along to Permission To Dance.”
BTS retweeted John’s tweet, and music news outlets Rolling Stone and NME also reported on the boy band and singer’s social media interaction.
“Permission to Dance” is continuing to set records. Its music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube on Sunday. At the time of the video’s release, 2.3 million concurrent viewers were watching. “Permission to Dance” also broke BTS’s own record by becoming the band’s 34th music video with over 100 million views, the most for any Korean artist.
The music video has also been receiving positive feedback for using International Sign language.
“Permission to Dance” topped the iTunes Top Songs charts in 92 nations and debuted at No. 2 on Spotify's Global Top 200 chart.
