Becky Lynch Opens SmackDown
Becky Lynch donned a Chris Jericho jacket, which figures to be a staple of this heel turn.
Becky Lynch used a familiar WWE trope by using a swerve in a promo when she paid homage to Conor McGregor and said she apologized...to absolutely nobody.
By the end of this segment, Becky Lynch took a sharp turn toward her newfound status as a heel by declining all challengers.
Bianca Belair def. Liv Morgan, Carmella and Zelina Vega
Liv Morgan looked great in this match and could have a really good underdog chase for a Raw or SmackDown Championship whenever WWE is ready.
Fans loved both Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch, so whenever they inevitably face off, I’m fully expecting a split crowd.
Cesaro def. Chad Gable by DQ
Chad Gable might have one of the best moonsaults in all of wrestling.
Otis continues to look dominant and go nowhere at the same time.
Happy Corbin Celebrates, Calls out Big E
Everybody assumed that the Happy Corbin character would be a babyface, but it might be Baron Corbin’s most obnoxious heel persona yet.
After winning big in Vegas, Happy Corbin is worth no less than $100,000, and for Big E, so is the WWE Championship.
Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs def. The Dirty Dawgz
Kevin Owens noted Rick Boogs pulled off a denim singlet and he was absolutely right.
Owens said Shinsuke Nakamura, who has done nothing but work tag team matches since winning a singles title, was doing a great job as Intercontinental champion.
Sami Zayn def. Dominik Mysterio
Sami Zayn has been off television for far too long. Hopefully WWE has plans for him moving forward.
As expected, Dominik Mysterio lost to Sami Zayn, and while he did shrug off his father, his heel turn will have to wait at least another week.
Roman Reigns and The Usos Championship Celebration with Paul Heyman
Prior to this segment, Roman Reigns unexpectedly told Paul Heyman he loved him. Roman Reigns continues to be just as potent of a character psychologically as he is physically. I just wish more WWE Superstars were given this much depth.
The Usos’ popularity rivaled that of Roman Reigns with fans loudly doing the “Usos” chant.
Finn Balor is becoming a perennial party pooper as a full-time star who pales in comparison to the much more enticing part-timers like John Cena and Brock Lesnar. The booking of Balor is a microcosm of how all full-time stars are viewed while Roman Reigns is champion.
It looks like The Street Profits are trending toward another feud with The Usos, and I can’t wait.
